Cube World (PC) Discussion - Updated with Server
Posted on 7/15/13 at 4:44 am
Posted on 7/15/13 at 4:44 am
Started a new thread since the other title was a little misleading. We can discuss gameplay, seeds, characters, etc...
WE GOT OURSELVES A LITTLE SERVER I'm running the server off of my main PC right now, but tomorrow we should have up a permaserver. Shoot me a message on steam (steam ID: bluebarracuda) for the IP info to get into the server. Right now the max people in a server is 4, but I'm going to figure out how to remove that limitation (since it's been accomplished by others).
So... A little talk about my characters:
I have a lvl 13 human warrior, a lvl 9 lizardman warrior and a lvl 3 human ranger. I had started offline with the lvl 13, but then I made a new warrior to start over with my roommate on LAN, and the ranger was just there because I got bored with the warrior. I enjoy the warriors most because I just like beating the frick out of everything. Mage's look pretty fun, and they're always fricking killing me when I attack another group

I'll repost my beginner tips and will update and edit as I go along.
--When you start, move towards the town immediately, killing and gathering (especially heart flowers) along the way. Buy glass flasks and head to a water source to make water flasks, combine with heart flowers for healing potions. Make as many as you can and never go out exploring without at least 10-15 ready to go IMO.
--Night time is fricking DARK, son. "F" is your light. Speak to an Inn keeper to reset the time to 7AM before you head out. This also resets the Mobs in all areas for farming purposes.
--Get a pet as fast as you can, they level up with you and help in combat. The Cube World wiki has a list of pet foods you need for each type of pet.
--Cook foods at a campfire for out of combat healing. You can gather items like ginseng to make soup, pumpkins for muffins, etc.
--I have not heard anything about transferring items between characters except if you get someone else to hold them while you log in another toon. If you can't use it and only play solo, sell it.
--You have to invest at least 6 skill points to use a hang glider, but it is far and away the most useful method of travel.
--at early levels stay away from the following monsters: Racoons, Biters, Insectoids, Snout Beetles. They look harmless but will frick your world up.
--There is no penalty for dying except that you respawn at the closest angel statue. If you are low on health and don't mind moving away a little, go get killed to save potions and food.
--Dodge is your friend. Middle mouse wheel click is your dodge. Use it as it negates all damage.
--The color of the name of the monster shows you what level it is:
White: Below you
Blue: Your lvl
Orange: A level or 2 above you
Red: Well above you, but doable if you dodge and kite
Red +# (2,3,4,etc): Don't even try it
The named areas on the map will be colored as above as well so you can see what areas are good to explore and what areas will get you killed at your current level.

There are torrents if you want to try ot out before you buy. I bought mine through the website.
The game is still in alpha, but its a very complete alpha. The content isn't complete, but the gameplay and mechanics are great.

how much does it cost?
Posted on 7/15/13 at 10:20 am to baytiger
$20.10. Will cover the alpha and all future upgrades. I've logged many hours on it already. It'll probably be one of my most played games ever
On the server note, if someone can help me find out how to remove the player cap that would be great. The cap is 4 and it appears we have more than that

try the r/ cubeworld subreddit. I think they have some info on things like that.

Solo tip.
Bounce seeds.
Keep your toon in the city on one seed.
Explore on the other seed.
That way you don't need to run all the way back to cash out or upgrade leveled skills.
You just log out from exploring then log in on the city seed.

This. Saves TONS of time.

I don't get the XP.
I get like 7xp for killing a bumblebee which isn't too hard.
I get like 1xp per NPC in those groups of NPCs even though I end up using all of my pots and nearly dying.

While all of that is true, just makes the game easier than it already is. I prefer to grind out those long walks back to cities

There was a thread on r/cubeworld about this the other day.
I haven't gotten the game yet. I'm scared to go all in on the game when I don't know if it won't go anywhere...even though I hear this is a very playable alpha.
But putting up the server for us is nice, and an incentive to buy!

Even better, I keep a shop seed, a mining seed, a dungeon seed, and an overworld leveling seed. Always somewhere to go.

Not nearly enough weapons and armor per level. They need to work on that.
The game is huge but the content isn't.
Not enough customization.
finding recipes is a pain in the A.

I wrote a big rant in the other thread...partly about this. But I did change my mind.
Basically, it scales so that the early levels are rough, but it gets easier, so there's that.
Once you get a good pet (Turtles for Mages/Rangers, Spitters for Warriors/Rogues) you can routinely takes reds and oranges. I'd argue that now its too easy. It is a weird curve for sure.
Get good pets and good armor/weapons then find yourself some +1 areas, and you can do 5 levels in an hour easily.
