Haven’t played DS2 because it’s not my type of game but it looks pretty stunning. I will be shocked if it beats Expedition for GOTY though. The people that vote on this type of stuff really love when games have an incredible narrative and story behind them, and the story about the team that made this game is absolutely incredible.

A good thing to do with Maelle is to put confidant, confidant fighter, and inverted infinity on her for these super bosses.

The two confidant luminas make her take less damage and do more damage but she can’t be healed, and since you won’t be healing self casting inverted gives another free 30% damage

Assuming you have her weapon that starts her in virtuous stance and applies double burn in it, with Cheater you can open the battle with rain of fire for 80 burns putting her into offensive then on second turn use Pyrolyse. If you have the double burn lumina on you’ll be around 220 burns after that. Next turn use last chance or swift stride to get back to virtuous and then use burning canvas. Which will raise the burn to over 340. Profit. You’ll do 3 million damage on the low end or like 8-10 million if you have all luminas set up right. If you use sciele to double her damage before hand then yeah, it’s ridiculous.

Painted Love frickin sucks. They have such a huge move set to memorize. Got to them yesterday and gave it 3-4 tries and turned it off. Will try to circle back this weekend

Use burn, It’s by far the easiest way to get massive passive damage depending on your level of like 300,000 per turn.

Idk what party you’re using but by far the most optimal is verso Maelle and Sciel, with cheater. If you need help let me know I’ll give you build advice

Yeah I have Verso inflicting burn with his base triple attack that triple stacks so after a few attacks it will get up to 500k I just have to keep him alive so it will stick

I heard early on Maelle is the most broken character so I made it a point to use her the least as a personal challenge. I don’t even know what pictos I have on her lol. I roll with Verso, Lune, and Monoco. I know I’m going to need her eventually so I’ll get her up to speed soon

Verso can be really effective at inflicting burn with Corpeso but it’s counter intuitive to doing things most effectively if you really can’t beat something with your setup.

I will humbly recommend putting the Chevelham on him, the weapon that starts him at S rank but doesn’t allow him to be healed (you can put the two confident luminas I spoke about above on him since he can’t be healed it’s free damage and damage reduction) for his loadout I recommend this; The move that lets him move again, the 9 AP ability that does more damage to to stunned targets and extends it on A rank, steeled strike which is going to be one of your main abilities with cheater, the mark ability that reduces his health, the 7 AP ability that breaks, and berserker slash. You’ll wanna open with steeled strike which when using cheater lets it move immediately then use his mark ability to whittle down his health and use berserker slash which when he’s really low health does massive damage.

For Maelle you’re going to wanna use the weapon you get really early for beating Scielle in gestural village. You start in virtuous stance, and its second level ability applies double burn in virtuous stance. Her layout should be pyrlose, the fire ability that breaks, rain of fire, swift stride, vendhall, burning canvas. Double burn is a very important for her.

Scielle should use the weapon that gives greater buffs in sun, moon, and twilight. Her loadout should be the 7 or 9 move that breaks, the move that gives AP and lets them act immediately, the move that makes them do double damage, the move that applies mark and foretell, this spot can be a few things I personally use the mega buff that gives all 3 buffs but you can use something like spectral sweep if you wanna burn luminas that auto apply
Buffs in this case using her 1 gradient will be the means of applying fortell when in twilight, and lastly the move that is 9 AP that does extreme damage and extends twilight by one turn.

Set this up with all the proper Pictos and lumina and you’ll do insane damage. Really important ones are anything that charges gradient. As I laid out above Maelle should be your burner, and in two turns can apply up to 340 burns and if you have longer burn equipped you can stack this insanely

ETA: to add a mistake I made about maelles build, the last ability should be burning canvas not last chance. Last chance is mostly only useful for when you want to make extremely broken one shot builds since in all other cases you’ll have burn applied and can use swift stride that doesn’t lower your health to one hp

This all assumes you’re on expert too. I haven’t played on normal much at all but I’d guess it’s far less likely to optimize out the arse.

Also you’re going to want to make sure all those 3 weapons I bought up are at max level 33. Maxing out the 2 stats that scale up to 99 each will have those threes damage around 12,500 each, with verso being about 11,400 since chevelham is a bit lower damage weapon.

I’m used to a stalker giving me one downvote for every post but it’s rare that I get a second, whomever the second person is please show yourself and say why I’m wrong. Ofc you can’t because myself and others have relentlessly tested this game and short of making intentionally broken builds the advice above is objectively the most effective normal means of damage output

Cowardly figs continue to “downvote” in the shadows without having the temerity to offer any type of refutation or constructive replies about anything I write.

How miserable it must be to have such a profoundly sad and pathetic life. Losers

On another play through and, man, Stone Wave Cliffs is just an awesome level.

Music, design, all of it.

Knowing what's coming gives it a gut punch that hits hard, too.

Agreed. The amount of subtle foreshadowing in it from beginning to end is absolutely insane

It's probably not at the top of most peoples list but, The Forgotten Battlefield really stood out the most to me. The sunset golden light filtering through that front gate when you first walk in and see all the bodies, putting into perspective how many tried and failed. Exploring that whole battlefield maze then fighting Dualliste. Amazing. Probably helps i was "elevated" when i played that area which i dont do often

In terms of visuals, environmental story telling, one of the best boss designs in the game, and the very emotional final cutscene of the level I think theyre all top tier of the main story dungeons.

In terms of level design, and general enemy layout and battle composition for the enemy groups its imo one of if not the worst of the main story levels

Just finished the level for the 3rd time.

That final cutscene is perfection.

Only nitpick I have with the duelist is for how awesome his design is he is pretty easy as a boss fight in the main story. At least for me I do always do all side content available before moving onto the next main story area so it is possible I was over leveled.

The nice thing is you get to fight him two more times one in the forgotten manor and in 2 of the battles in the forgotten tower where he is paired with other enemies and bosses so you actually get to learn his moveset there.

Painted Love is down. Finally broke down and swapped Lune out for Maelle and it made life a bit easier. Still took awhile to memorize their move set

Also knocked out the paint shop Lampmaster which was easy work now that I’m level 92

Went around and collected all the journals, gestrals, and records I missed. Surprisingly only missed 3 journals and 1 record (Gustave) throughout the entire journey. I did terrible on Gestrals tho think I only had 3

All that’s left is to grind to level 99, beat Simon, then the end game. It’s been a hell of a ride

Any exp farming area recs would be appreciated. Grinding Dark Shores right now but it’s still taking awhile

This is the strategy I used (from Reddit):

quote:

The absolute most XP you can find is Renoir's Draft. Do not fight the merchant. There is a better fight that you can use all of your characters for if you find the merchant too difficult to fight individually.

Enter the area. Go down the ramp from the expedition flag and take a hard left. There is a path that leads to a building with a grapple point.

Go up there and down the ramp on the other side and there is a group of 3 enemies. No flyers.

The fight will get you (with +20% xp no damage) 3,163,306xp, 3 colour of luminae, 3 grandiose chroma catalysts, and a recoat (amounts of items may vary slightly per fight).

Head back to the flag, or kill the group of enemies in front of the ramp to the flag for another 1mil, rest, repeat.

I did this. It was extremely easy to rack up a ton of lumina points.
