I've been playing about 15 hours in this weekend. I've been loving it! 
Also,
to anyone going through BS victories like culture or wonders victory. Most frustrating thing in the game for me. Spend hours working on huge cities and strategy, only for a derpy AI to build some wonders and GG.

While the AI is using their production on wonders you build up the military and take their cities.

Culture victory requires strategy as well, does it not?

Played as Murica and once my Science was OP I made about 12 jets and 5 tanks and proceeded to give everyone my freedom boner.

So if you are playing a continents map and it just so happens that Scythia is on the opposite continent as you.... just fricking reroll.
By 1200 AD Scythia has annihilated everything on the other continent and is spamming goddamn missionaries to my continent like there's no tomorrow.

It tells you who is leading on each victory. If someone is getting too close, knock em out.

On a sadder note my hard drive shat the bed this weekend. Will be a few days before I can play again.

I've never played a Civ game but am thinking about trying it out.
How are the Civ 4 or Civ 5 games? I'd like to try one and see how I like it before spending the money on 6.

Civ 5 complete edition is a really good game and regularly on sale for $10. I'd highly recommend it.

Get civ v like jcole said and get used to the dynamics of the game. By the time you understand the process hopefully civ 6 will have alot of fixes.

I wasn't a huge fan on 5 but I've found myself getting high scores in culture not even trying. Kind of needs some balance since you need amenities to grow and those lend themselves to that victory.

Exactly, the game gives you ample time to stop someone from claiming victory

Not sure if the AI can get war weariness, but man, that really cripples my growth whenever I get war declared on me early.
