Elden Ring in its current state is by the far the least desirable FromSoft game to consider replay value for.
Lol what? There are so many weapons/ashes of war/spells/incantations and build varieties for Elden Ring myself and anyone else who cares could play this game for 20 years and not be tired of it. That’s not to mention there isn’t even dlc out yet

you are responding to a guy that states his opinion, says that he doesn't care if other people like it, but then proceeds to berate anyone who disagrees with his opinion. I don't think you'll get a legit response to your question.

My legitimate response to his post would be; how interesting are all the variety of ways the game offers you to tackle challenges when almost nothing that challenges you is mechanically interesting in the first place?

This is such an interesting take. I thought the back 1/3 of the game was absolutely phenonemal. I would actually argue (after 3 playthroughs) that the middle portion of the game (like 25% through 40% of the way through) is the worst part by a landslide, it gets a lot better towards the end.

If that’s how you feel about it then I’m not sure from software’s catalogue is for you

This is pretty much how I felt. The only end portion of the game that I wasn’t fond of was the mountaintop portion with all the dead giants. There’s only 2 or 3 points of interest there

Only my 3rd video game after 20 year layoff, never played a dark souls game. Elden Ring is pretty damn good and pretty damn hard. I enjoyed it all the way through for 3 different times.

I’m not saying the game isn’t good. I’m not even saying it’s not better than almost every other AAA production put out in years. I mean hell the game actually more or less worked perfectly fine on Ps5, even though I understand PC had some initial issues, and I really love their approach taken to things like open world design, quests, minimalistic UI, etc. I’m merely saying the game isn’t a 10/10 masterpiece. With a lot of the innovations and new approaches they put in Elden Ring it does come with some drawbacks. I’ve already explained some of my biggest ones earlier in the thread. Another one I haven’t mentioned yet is how different certain bosses feel in this game where they almost are designed to specifically be taken down with a certain build or using summons. Many also feel like they were straight out of bloodborne put into Dark Souls 4 without giving you the hyper aggressive and fast move set that game had to compensate for the boss speed and aggression. If I had to rate it numerically id give it a 8/10. Everything to the capital 9/10.

There’s also the story to Elden Ring which neither myself or anyone has really addressed in this thread yet. While it is interesting in its own way, I was hoping for something different than what is basically just re skinned dark souls.

No. I beat every boss with a strength build. I haven’t run dex yet but dex/bleed seems op so I don’t think there would be a problem there. Int builds were able to melt every boss with comet azur early after release from what I saw so I doubt that’s a problem either. These games and their bosses are as simple or as complex as you want to make them. If you wanted to run the game with a simple dagger you could do it. Every build is viable.

I mean the game is pretty much an amalgamation of all the best parts of the past 13 years of their catalogue. So it wasn’t really a surprise to me that there was some BB/Lovecraft inspiration thrown in

At this point, I don't play FromSoft games for their stories. They have interesting lore but next to no story telling at all. I figured having George R. R. Martin on with Miyazaki would change this but sadly it did not. Still a phenomenal game nonetheless, but I wish they'd have more emphasis on story telling.

I didn’t say you couldn’t beat the game with a certain build. I always play the first run on a dex/skill build think blades of mercy/chicage/rakuyo from Bloodborne type weapons and I did the same here for every boss in the game except Malenia “blade of Miquella” who is straight up annoying as hell and poorly optimized (but looks very good and her and miquella have the coolest lore stories) without a certain weapon art and summons.
They have extremely interesting lore and stories imo. They had something almost truly great here in Elden Ring but couldn’t resist just making it another way of telling Dark Souls 1 story with new characters.

Makes sense, now go with an intelligence build and try it. Strength builds are simply the base line because all entities take physical damage. My first build was a mage and it was a hell of a time to get through some bosses because you could not get enough damage on them. I have run an intelligence, dex/bleed, and now pure strength. My 150 level str build can blow through bosses. My 150 level intelligence build, I had to find different magic combos to get past various bosses. I have not played any other RPG game except Elden Ring since the early 2000's, I can say it is a very good game. As good as Ultima Online when it first came out and it took the gaming world by storm. The fight against Lord British castel is still a thing of legend for us GenX gamers. Elden Ring is on that level. Is it a 10/10, probably not, but its close based on the depth and expansiveness of the game. I have run through it 3x and I still have not done all the different quests and such.

No doubt in my mind I can do it. But I’m only responding to his point about having to change builds to beat certain bosses. Sounds like you beat all the bosses with a mage build without having to respec. I usually pick a strength build for these games just for my first runthrough

Just beat the game with a faith build after 150ish hours. Probably completed 90% of the content and loved most of the experience.
Best part was finishing before my son who is a Souls veteran, while this was my first FromSoft game.
Overall top 5 game I have ever played. Probably won't do a NG+ as I have a huge backlog that includes the end of Cyberpunk, Witcher 3 DLC, ME trilogy and Dishonored DLC and Dishonored 2.

Why get so triggered over a video game. Clearly the last 3rd or so of the game was rushed and didn't receive the same polish the rest of the game got. It's no big deal, it's still an 8/10 game. Relax.

I must have been lucky. Played it on the ps5 since day one for 140ish hours. Didn't have one issue. Best single player experience I've had on day 1 since God of War.
Pretty impressive since most games seem to release and then release the completed version 1-3 years later....or never.
