I spent the weekend talking with AT&T because that's my only provider. I have DSL and I'm getting speeds that vary between 3.0 and .24 for download. It's all over the board. Customer Support says my router is not stable and are sending me a new one. Is this possible? Are they right?

I was having problems with an old router and I updated mine. After I did that, I have had zero problems with dropped signals, loss of connection, etc. I think I spent around $50 on a new one...I couldn't tell you which one.

Happened to me a few months ago. Nice that they are sending you a new one.

I spend about $600 a month with them. It's the least they can do.

I'm not sure if they're right, but routers degenerate over time just every other piece of machinery. If you've used it for more than 2-3 years, odds are that it should have been replaced already.

It's probably 7 years old. It's a B router I think.

I didn't know you were supposed to upgrade every few years. I hope my speeds increase.

I had a G router, now I think I have an N router. I don't even know what that means.

Before you buy another one, check the firmware version to make sure it's current.

I don't know anything about routers but my cable wireless modem router has the weakest signal strength. I can't get it from my office to my living room. It barely gets to my master bedroom which is across the hall

Ya, that terrible. I can get a signal off my router which is in the middle of my house anywhere in the house on both floors, and then 50 feet into the backyard at least. Albeit it is a little hit and miss at that point.

Holy crap. You couldn't give that thing away. You'll do exponentially better with a new router.

I have ATT DSL. After 14 months my router quit working. Called tech support, and they determined that it was done. I had to pay $100 for a new model.

They then post my payment to my cell account, and shut my Internet off even though I had documents proving I used the correct account number.

FWIW, AT&T has really bad customer service.

You agreed to pay them 100 dollars for what is probably a subpar router?

5 minutes worth of research on the Internet would have saved you a lot of money and the headache.
