The average Bungie executive compensation is $242,887 a year. The median estimated compensation for executives at Bungie including base salary and bonus is $251,113, or $120 per hour. At Bungie, the most compensated executive makes $600,000, annually, and the lowest compensated makes $61,000.
Again, I think other things could have been done before just axing a lot of people.

Yeah, like make better games

A lot of developers have chimed in on this. They are often hamstrung by decisions from the top brass, be it deadlines, available resources, even creative decisions, which often time backfire, but it's the people following those orders that pay the price.

Bingo.
They should have stuck with Microsoft and continued the Halo Saga or did the next evolution of it. Halo always seemed to be an evolution of Marathon, but Destiny did not seem to be an evolution of Halo.
I know they ended up making Destiny better, but it was not launched that way.
Now they find themselves owned by Sony, instead of MSFT.
Supposed to be a new Marathon in the works, we will see how this impacts that. The Marathon universe was cool, so it would be neat to see a modern take on that.

This encapsulates why we are "enjoying" subpar games and movies. The top executives are making bank while the employees (who get laid off) are making pigeon feed.
"What? 60 grand is good money!!!!" You might say.
Not really. In the good parts of the South that is about average and probably below it. In some places like Silicon Valley you might as well be sucking off hobos behind the bus station.
Long hours, shitty pay, and executives who are green lighting terrible ideas but still making more money than some third world countries is a recipe for disaster. And we've seen a lot of disasters lately.

Cringe. Why is board celebrating people losing their jobs?

I'm old enough to remember when Sony taking over Bungie was supposed to be a big deal.

I like destiny more than halo. The newest expansion is great.
I didnt play the more recent ones but did Halo ever become more than just pvp or vs a team of bots?

Infinite had an open world story mode you had to pay for. I read it was mid at best.

Halo should've died with Reach. Crazy how shitty the 343 games have been. Totally forgettable

While the exact details of Sony’s deal to acquire Bungie remain unknown to the public or employees, sources say they were told by leaders that the current split board structure is contingent on Bungie meeting certain financial goals. If Bungie falls short of certain financial thresholds by too great an amount, Sony is allowed to dissolve the existing board and take full control of the company.

I'll put it as far as I know, which isn't everything by a long shot: In time, Bungie will lose its autonomy and will become like any other PlayStation Worldwide Studio under SIE and Herman Hulst.

This is my fear with Bethesda. I like that they have more resources to potentially get games or faster, but waiting for the other shoe to drop.
