Buddy sent me a steam link. What controller is best?

I realized as I was setting it up that I don't have a compatible controller.
Apparently need steam controller, ps4, or Xbox controller wired, and if it's wireless then I need an adapter
Which is best?

You HAVE to have one?
I've played plenty of games without one. I use an Xbox controller (wired) now because I mostly play with a laptop in a chair so it's more convenient. Works well.

Latest version of the Xbox One controller with headset jack and bluetooth, so you dont need a usb pc adapter. You can just pair it with the Steam Link.

Take this opportunity to force yourself to try / use the steam controller. Once you get used to it, and the ability it has to be customized, you'll never go back.

My Dualshock 4 is plug and play.
Bluetooth also works if you have it on your PC for wireless.
Doesn't get easier.
