Well I've learned how to kill them from the back but multiple enemies is impossible and I don't like having to start over every time I die

start over? like from the beginning? i hope you found the lamp at the top of the ladder 
if you mean starting each area over since the last lamp, then yes, it's tough, but also good for grinding and learning. you will get the hang of it, trust me

You have to have it equipped in your item slot (molotov /pebble).

One of my top 3 ps4 games, got it for some of my friends. You need to learn enemies moves and tendencies, I was the same way when I first started. The thrill of completing some of the boss battles is incredible, gives you a sense of accomplishment. Don't give up keep trying, you will get there.

Go underground there are some upgrades. Also after the first boss is dead I think you can grind some if you need to level. Been awhile since I played it though

Haven't played it yet, but I bought it from the PS Store last week for $8. Glad to hear a lot of people think is a good game.

After you face the first boss or find a certain item you can start upgrading your character

Yes there is an item in the sewers I recommend getting before fighting the first boss.

I got killed pretty quickly at the beginning of the game and next thing I know, I'm outside and I can't figure out how to get back inside. All of the doors are closed and so is the gate. What am I supposed to be doing?
