To be fair, there's a quote on trans-dimensional travel by a fictional quantum physicist right before the game starts.

Instead of the Lady Comstock fights, they should've let you fight Patriots and Handymen in a ravaged NYC. I think that would've been amazing and I was disappointed that we only got to look at the destruction

Just to clarify i think this game is amazing. It sucked me n like a boss and u will notice things that dont make sense in the second play through and catch things u didnt understand the first time. The scene with old Elizabeth and the raining fire was a huge moment for me. One critique i have is who wanted booker to get the girl back? I thought he gave Comstock the girl to settle a debt so who is he gonna settle a debt with by getting her back? And how is he so confused at the lighthouse?

Comstock needed a heir to sit the throne because his prophecy stated his offspring would be the one raining down fire.
Comstock was sterile from messing around with tears.
Comstock took note of an alternate version of himself who had a child and was on hard times.
Comstock uses the luteces to offer a deal to help Booker with his troubles. Give us the girl and we will wipe away the debt.
Bookers memories were muddled when he jumped over the alternate universe. His fragmented mind only remembered the deal and applied it to entering columbia to extract Elizabeth.

What he was asking is, who sent Booker to retrieve the adult Elizabeth from Columbia? To that end the Luteces (at least one of them) had a conscience and hired Booker to get her back.

The male lutece wanted to fix things. Can't remember the exact lines from the audio logs, but he Put everything in motion.

Cool little tidbit I saw on another forum: a poster said that inside of Fink's Good Time Club, there's a copy of Rembrandt's "Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Gallilee". The painting was placed in a Boston museum in 1903 and stayed there until 1990 when it was stolen and hasn't been seen since. Fink wasn't just stealing music and plasmids.

It's those little things that make the game so great. His brother ripping off modern music and becoming 'the Mozart of Columbia.'

Is 1999 mode essentially just a second playthrough?

Not if you just want to enjoy the game and soak in the story.

Ohhh just looked up what it was. No thanks.

It helps the game have more replayability but it's more work than anything.

I nearly creamed my pants when I heard Tainted Love playing in one of the bars. Stayed and listened to the whole song

It really hasn't been that bad for me. I might have died about 5 times and I am at Lady Comstock right now. I'm sure I will tack on a few more deaths in that fight.
