The more I'm reading on it, the more I see "based on settlement building".
Jeff, I apologize.
Again, I had no time for that in an actual fallout game. It seemed like it could be fun but I'd rather be doing a hundred other things when playing those games.
We'll see how this pans out.
They definitely will need to change up the inventory system for this.

i actually enjoyed base building but the online aspect is a bit worrying.
survival online games tend to draw out sociopaths and griefers. trolls and psychopaths.
plus how could VATS work in an online setting.
online potentially means no mods either.
its still intriguing though. Bethesda usually doesnt release garbage

man my base in fo4 had a switch that shutdown all water pumps and switched on a laser turret/rocket grid anytime an alarm was sound.
allowed me to double my effective power consumption.
legit firework show anytime i was attacked.
i probably had more fun running electricity and playing with circuits than anything.
three story penthouse in the starting suburb.
a complete shanty town in the movie theatre.
i went all out and loved it.

Outside of the required story missions, I never touched it.

Maybe you have to go out and gather supplies or fight with other players for supplies to build your settlement. I'm sure players will be able to attack each others' bases too.

there has to be ample exploration. all the best supplies wont just be handed over.
grocery stores, shopping centers, factories... its not a fallout game without delving into some fricked up building with danger everwhere.
plus the timeline is unique..we will be the first civilians to see the world after the nuclear winter. thats exciting.

Like mear pointed out, these games usually give you the option of playing by yourself if you wanted.

i hope its "you and up to 3 friends can explore trade and build together in your own world"
not 50 people on at once farming the same super mutant for some rare material and fighting over it.

they went really in depth with it. I was online looking at actual real world schematics and reading about switches and circuits and electrical engineering type shite. how to daisy chain a string of lights and ceiling fans in a series of houses from just one generator, etc
point being, this can be really good if done right.

I never quite understood how electricity works. A generator only lights up part of a building, no matter how big it is. There's a dlc that lets you build a fusion generator that puts out 100 electricity but I don't have that dlc. I try not to put generators everywhere just because it looks like shite.
I don't do anything too fancy though, mostly just lights. I like to put my radio beacon and a laser turret on the same 3 electic generator because it works out perfectly.

imma hafta take some screenshots. I spent wayyy too much time on my settlements
revisiting my towns will surely get me more hyped up for fo76
I don't remember how I powered my buildings. I seem to remember some type of conduit that transmitted electricity in 360 degrees so I could light up multiple floors.

I watch Oxhorn on youtube for inspiration. His settlements are really impressive. He uses a few mods though.

This will probably just be a console version of Fallout Shelter.
But with the Battle Royale craze, probably that

so ive just realized I bought an actual disc version of fallout4 and lost it in the 2016 flood

100% this. more like boderlands than gta

It will have quests and a story, like any other game from Bethesda Game Studios, a developer known for meaty RPGs like Skyrim. It will also feature base-building—just like 2015's Fallout 4—and other survival-based and multiplayer mechanics, according to those sources. One source cautioned that the gameplay is rapidly changing, like it does in many online “service” games, but that’s the core outline.
I just hope its not a multiplayer only open world game with a fallout skin and online play. how would vats even work? some kind of speed multiplyer where both choose their shots and then the game works it out?
to be honest, Id rather a dedicated multiplayer campaign/ "closed" or non-mmo co-op world than an open world mmo type game.
but beyond all of that i really hope there's a solid dedicated single player only campaign. I'll be very bummed out if they abandon single player campaign for a fallout game.

That stinks
Fallout 4 is one of the few games I actually still own a physical copy of.

I know this will sound sacreligious, but we might need to let go of the idea of vats in this game. That vats sound effect is a staple of these games, but it is what it is: this isn't going to be a typical fallout game.

squaring up a point blank shotgun blast to a raider's face via VATS is so satisfying
looking forward to e3 and seeing more.

What's going to upset people is when there are no super mutants.
