This list is definitive:

Metroid - I could never believe how fricking awesome this game was. Even in 1987 I marveled at the idea that I was lucky enough to have it.

Zelda - perfection

Kid Icarus - obsession

Excitebike - without a doubt, I'm the single greatest player of all time

Super Mario Bros. - goes without saying.

Tetris - the NES version of Tetris is still the best they ever had

Tecmo Bowl - Scottie Norwood...FTW!

How do people leave Mike Tyson's Punch-Out off of these lists? And Super Mario Bros 3. And Castlevania. The list goes on.

Any list without Mega Man and/or Bionic Commando is incomplete.

Good catch. I was also the world's best at this. I could go through every fighter without being punched once.

I loved it then, but it's faded over time.

I agree you don't have SMB 3, Punchout, or Contra.

I never liked the SMB follow ups, sorry.

Contra.

Good but not great.

What about Ghosts and Goblins? That might have been the hardest game ever.
