Metal gear was the greatest thing ever created in 1987. I spent so much time playing that game.

I totally forgot about this game. It was awesome.

Bard's Tale, Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar, Final Fantasy, Kid Icarus, Zelda, Crystalis, Dragon Quest.
I hated sports games up until the N64/Playstation era.

I have the FC twin and 52 games that me and my 4 year old play just about every night. It's easy for him and he loves it and I still enjoy them too , brings back old memories. I have just about every game mentioned in this thread.

Metroid - I could never believe how fricking awesome this game was. Even in 1987 I marveled at the idea that I was lucky enough to have it.
Zelda - perfection
Kid Icarus - obsession
Excitebike - without a doubt, I'm the single greatest player of all time
Super Mario Bros. - goes without saying.
Tetris - the NES version of Tetris is still the best they ever had
Tecmo Bowl - Scottie Norwood...FTW!

Good list so far, especially for mentions of StarTropics, Crystalis and Rygar.
I'll add:
River City Ransom
Wizards and Warriors
LifeForce
Mappy Land

frickin A.
I played this game for years because it's the only game my grandmother had besides excitebike.

Ninja Gaiden is the only answer, but damn that game was too hard.

Ninja Gay Dan was very hard...

I thought StarTropics was an SNES game for some reason. It was just a Zelda knock-off to me with poorer maneuverability and a dumber weapon. I also thought it was harder than Zelda.
ETA: The invisible ink thing in the game packaging was pretty cool, though.

I've logged more hours on Guerilla War than any game in history.

OK, I literally was the best player in the world. On the hardest setting I could beat the computer like 300 - 0. I think I once made 1000 3 pointers in a row.

Do they make one that just has games preloaded? Seems odd you have to actually have the cartridges.
