And I don't mean highest res textures or the most polygons being pushed, though that can be included too. I'm just talking about games you either thought looked great at release or still think look great today.

Sonic the Hedgehog - I don't think the original Sonic holds up well in gameplay but I still think it's a great looking classic game. Its first stage in particular has such a unique look with the checkerboard pattern, the polygon-esque landscaping and nice paralax scrolling.

Wind Waker has to be up there. Go run the original on an emulator at 1080p with AA and it looks amazing. The HD remake didn't need any of the flash they added. It just needed better resolution and AA. The original graphics were great.

Also going to mention Metroid Prime. Exploring the mysterious worlds in the Metroid universe in 3D was mind blowing at the time and I still regard that game as one of the best of all time.

This game was pretty bad,but The Order 1886 looked good.

Until Dawn was great, but basically a movie.

Blood borne wins for me with best graphics plus gameplay.

Uncharted 2-4 have some of the best scenery I have ever seen in a game(s). Granted I am not the biggest gamer on the planet either.

The Witcher 3.

Best looking video game I've ever played. Also has the best story and open world atmosphere to date, bar none.

Agreed. It still looks great, even without the Wii U HD improvements.

Same for me. Screenshots don't do that game justice. All the little graphical details added so much. Steam, ice, and rain effects on the visor. Seeing Samus's reflection inside the helmet during firefights.

Agreed. That's another one that looks far better in motion with Mario jumping from unique planetoid to planetoiid, but still shots aren't bad either.

I think SMG2 is a little better than 1 but they are both fantastic games. I'd play through both. You can get them in the Wii U eShop but they still must be played with a Wii-mote & nunchuck.

Soul Calibur on Dreamcast was absolutely jaw dropping at the time. It was the first game that looked BETTER than the arcade.

That series has always been about the atmosphere and Retro put in those little touches that really managed to immerse you in those worlds. Such a highly regarded game and I still feel it is underrated.

not really because the graphics were outstanding or anything, but the world design as a whole was so great
