Never been a big PC gamer other than a few games here and there, but I am in need of a new laptop and want to get away from the previous Macbook life. Whats the best bang for my buck laptop that is also able to play games with high graphics?

What's your budget?

Walmart actually has a well reviewed gaming laptop now for an affordable price @ $950:

EVOO

FWIW I would only look at laptops with 120 or 144 HZ screens (like the link above). 60 HZ looks terrible by comparison.

My budget would be anywhere from 1000-1500.

That's sort of where I was a year or so ago - I ended up with a 17 inch MSI laptop with a GTX1060 with a 144HZ refresh screen, which was decent at the time for laptop. It was around $1K.

Here's a link with laptops w/ high refresh screens and their prices ranges. Good place to start:

Im definitely on the Acer - Predator train and just Acer in general. Ive had 3 latops including this gaming laptop ive had for 5 years or so.

Ive purchased - 2 Acer Predator laptops, 1 regular laptop, 1 desktop, and 4 monitors and have gotten my money out of all of them.

I picked up a GE73 Raider (120Mhz refresh) and it's been pretty good but I do have a couple of issues...

It runs a little warmer than I would like unless I have a cooling plate under it.

Anything playing on the laptop screen goes through the integrated Intel gpu, you have to run something on the HDMI or mini for the dedicated gpu to take over (which I'm sure adds to the warmth issue). I've set every setting I can possibly find to use the dedicated, all for naught. During my research I found this is a known issue with at least this model. It's not horrible, but playing something like CoX means pretty much needing my cooling plate running on high and running my laptop fans on high.

It wasn't until last month that MSI put out their version of the GTX 1060 VBIOS update. This addressed a long-running issue with this laptop model where if you updated your NVidia driver beyond v417, your Rift (including the S) would simply not work (no video was being passed through the mini port).

What about memory? I'm seeing a lot of 16gb and 32gb in the models I'm looking at.
