I’m sure there’s a thread somewhere in the way back machine but I’m wondering what kind of “extra button options” etc. (ie. Auto-fire? Button remapping?)
The SO just bought me a Series X and I’m waayyy out of touch as to what’s out there for controllers with features beyond standard buttons.
Hopefully some of you have purchased the expensive controllers and have opinions on which ones you guys like and why or why not.
Thanks guys.
For your efforts, Margot Robbie

I don't have an xbox but I do play with an elite 2 on PC. I like it alot. I've always been a PS guy until I built this PC and I like this controller better than the dualsense edge. I have heard of elite 2 issues, even on this board, but I've had mine for 4 months or so without any. Its really nice and I recommend considering it.

I'm still using my XBox One white camouflage controller I got for like $30 one Black Friday years ago.
I have a black controller that came with the Series X but it only gets used for two player games.
ETA: I really like the XBox controller and don't feel the need to get anything "better."

I imagine the most popular controllers outside of the generic would be the Xbox Elite series, or anything SCUF. I have both, the first Elite and a SCUF Instinct pro. I use both on PC depending on what games I'm playing. What games do you play and what features are you most interested in?

Elite 2, hands down...

Can't speak for any other controllers, but I bought an Elite 2 a year or two back and love it. It's definitely not for those on a budget, however.

What is better about these controllers compared to the base model?

For me, personally...just a couple of things
The weight just feels better. They weigh a bit more than regular.
Customizable sticks and d-pad
4 programmable back buttons, even though I only use one.
You can change the depth response of the triggers.
If you are on PC (I'm not sure how it works on Xbox), you can change the stick response profile as well as the trigger response profle through xbox accessories on PC.
I've played with this a bit and changing the stick profile has made FPS games a bit easier for me. Also, if you get some minor drift, you can increase the deadzones a bit.
These are just the things I did. There may be more.

biggest plus for me, was the paddles on the back where you rest your fingers..
I changed these to be my LB/RB and id pay 1000 for the next model if needed

I think the consensus is Elite 2.
Is there possibly a more expensive controller I could compare it to and see what it has versus a $300 unit?

The 4 back buttons might be the biggest draw for me. Thanks for the info.

You can also adjust joystick tension on the Elite controllers. The elite 2 is probably the way to go. I'm not sure if they have any of the same issues as the Elite, such as RB/LB double registering/stick drift forming very quickly, but make sure you have a warranty on it just in case. For me, the 4 paddles on the back were too close to each other and I would constantly hit the wrong one on accident, so I removed the 2 I wasn't using.
On the scuf instinct pro, the back has physical buttons, not removable paddles. For some that makes a big difference. Take a trip to your local best buy and they should have both the elite and scuf controllers there with a model that you can hold and feel out for yourself.

I really just came to this thread to figure out how an xbox controller post could be nsfw

you'll be surprised how often you use LB/RB

I love the Elite Series 2 controller, but I will say I’m on my 3rd one with the previous two eventually getting bad stick drift. I never had a problem with the bumpers on them though.
The weight is a great feel for the controller and playing a first person shooter, the paddles are a must now days. I couldn’t get myself to use all
4 so I just use 2 of them with one on each side for jumping and the other for switching weapons.
Friend of mine said the Battle Beaver brand is legit but I’m not spending $300 on a controller.

I have an OG elite that is like 8 years old. The rubber fell off the grips but it's otherwise still perfectly functional. The paddles for A/B/X/Y on the back are total gamechangers for FPS games and very useful for others. Idk how I ever managed to win anything with a normal controller.

I love the back paddles on my elite 2. They help with constantly jumping in games which is what I like to do.
