played it on the easiest level because i wasn't in it for the challenge. i remember playing the original trilogy back in the day and how difficult some of the bosses were.

Kratos and Atreus sure did encounter a bunch of bullshite just to spread some ashes of their late wife/mother.

one thing i noticed with the combat was the blocking and dodging. is there some kind of technique that i'm missing? i've played the Batman Arkham series several times over and the counter moves were always easy to initiate due to the indicator.

here, i could catch the animations of several bosses and know when they're about to strike, but very rarely did a block ever actually work. dodge moves as well. i was always spamming L1 or double tapping X. cost me a few deaths in some scenarios.

It's been a while now, but I don't remember blocking, dodging, and parrying as being terribly inconsistent. With that said, it required proper timing, and that timing was not right when the red or yellow indicator flashed. If you found yourself spamming, or even double tapping, buttons, you're likely to have a bad time.

i noticed these but didn't take them as warnings like you would expect. i only ever saw them if i was fighting an enemy and another was behind me, off screen, about to attack.

Yellow means it can be blocked or (ideally) parried. Red means it must be dodged.

Haha it happens

Don't worry, whether you've beaten the game or not, I imagine you haven't taken out all of the Valkyries yet. Feel free to go get some practice in with them

"hmm, i guess i'll upgrade this. don't know what it does, but the numbers are green."

I have as well, but based on his struggles, I was fairly certain he hadn't. But with that said, the queen ain't no joke

I watched some youtube videos of people beating her without getting hit. I couldn't do that well but I followed their strategy and got through it.

I played that back before I had ever played (and now played and replayed and replayed...) any of the Souls games, so I would be curious how I would do with her now. I didn't really understand how to deconstruct a fight back then.

Now, it's:

1. Learn how to avoid (or minimize) taking damage for each specific move
2. Learn which moves, after avoiding damage, leave openings for punishing
3. Split those moves into the ones that are easy to punish and those that you have to be quick to punish (or quick to punish repeatedly)

Then it simply comes down to patience. Are you willing to wait for just the moves that are easy to punish, and only punish a little. Or do you stretch into the less easy to punish moves and/or punish the easy moves more heavily.

And then you have to avoid getting too fricking greedy right before they did and getting your dumb arse fricking killed

It’s better than GOW 2018. Such great games, but Ragnarok is incredible.

Sigurn on hard and GMGOW mode was ridiculous. The Valkyrie in nifelheim was also very frustrating. Figuring out Atreus interrupts her air attack helped tremendously.

oooh that's a strong statement. 2018 is fantastic throughout, Ragnoraok needed more time to cook in the oven. the story, especially at the end, is pretty bad
