BG2 came out 23 years ago and I do a play through at least once every couple years. So much to do it's hard to get tired of anything specific.

Anyone else playing a warlock? Any suggestions or tips?

I use the imp summon
Stand back, get high ground
Ice armor if in a bad spot
Cloak of daggers aoe in a choke or on multiple mobs
Hex on the main enemy
Eldritch blast

Anything else I should or could be doing?

I use Wyll a lot and I've got the repelling blast pact on him and it's insane, especially in the underdark where you're fighting on cliffs a lot. I've ended several fights early because of it.

I had a fun fight in the Goblin camp tonight. Went into Volo's prison, ganked the torturer gal when was alone but then the wandering bow-using goblin poked his head in.

He ran away and summoned help so I just closed the door.

As help arrived, every now and then one would come to the door and open it, so I would one-shot it (had La'zel standing in the doorway so that when it opened, they had to run by her in order to get to any other characters so she got a free shot on them). Once a bunch of them massed together I cast a couple of dagger clouds just outside the door then closed it again. I guess they got tired of waiting for me to come out so they all charged in and died before ever opening the door.

I use Wyll a decent bit.

My main is Bard and for social checks is amazing. Keep someone in the party with guidance and consistently have an extra 1d4.

Bard has a good enough dex and enough skill options to crank up sleight of hand. Only a few locks have been above what the character can do.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is the best game in the series. Incredible replay value. We still break it out on the PS2 every once in a while and slash through it.

Such an amazing game. They remastered it and you can play it on ps5 now.

The water effects blew my mind as a kid.

Also played the 2nd one. Champions of norrath as well

I finally closed out the Druid Grove story. Got Volo and Haslin in my camp, got the three tadpoles from the goblin camp, got the ogre horn and got to first base with Shadowheart. Ended the night at the Adamantine Forge.

All in all, a pretty successful evening.

5. My group is: my bard, La'zel, Shadowheart and Wyll

Killing Gut was easy, you just wait until she takes you into her private rooms to (ostensibly) cure you of your tadpole. Once there, make sure the door is closed then kill her.

Minthara - I actually started this in the neighboring room (the one with the 3 goblins, not by going over the bridges directly to her). You can defeat 2 of the 3 goblins before she aggros (or else it was just bad luck for me). She'll use Dash to get up the ladder to the ledge on the left side of the room you're in. Try to use your turns to get to the ledge first. Be sure to position your characters so that she can't shove or use some sort of concussive force to knock them into the pit where the bridge is (you'll have to talk to Withers to rez them, or, like me, load from your last save -heh!). If you're going for tadpoles, don't knock her into the chasm either.

She will be assisted by her two minions but one will eventually go well out of range in order to beat their war drum. The other is easily killable with ranged weapons and the bonus from having the higher ground.

By the time the other goblins make it in from the other areas, you should have her dead (see tip at the end of this post). From there, it's either picking off the lowbies from the ledge or climbing down the ladder and slaughtering them up close and personal.

Dror Ragzlin was the tricky one for me. I think the problem I experienced was attacking him from the left side of the room instead of the right.

My last fight with him (where I finally defeated him) happened by accident as I was somehow still aggro from the fight where I freed Volo, yet they didn't show as aggro until I entered the room.

One key with this fight is to keep any goblins from using the war drum on the right side of the dias (it's on a small ledge they have to climb a ladder to reach).

TIP: Cloud of Daggers is extremely useful in this fight and the one with Minthara (drop a couple of clouds on her on the ledge, being sure to position your party outside of it - she'll either give your party a free turn to attack her or she'll stay there and eat far more damage each turn than she can heal through as the damage from multiple clouds stack).

I dropped a Cloud of Daggers at the base of the ladder, any goblins who went for the drum died before stepping on the first rung. I had held my group back when the fighting started, using ranged damage to take out a nearby caster or archer. Dror Ragzlin will come to you, so try to key your placement to take advantage of your Cloud of Daggers (by this I mean use that cloud and at least one more to create a wall of dagger clouds once he's squared off with whichever party member he's targeted - hopefully your tank). If you get lucky enough that he positions himself where you can hit him with both Clouds at the same time, the fight is pretty much over.

After that it's just mopping up the goblins on the floor with you and the two drow above/behind the dias (who may or may not aggro during the fight, but will afterwards if they did not during). Dror Ragzlin has the key to the loot vault above/behind the dias, it's worth it.

The "Bye, Bitch" Method:

There are faster ways to beat both Dror Ragzlin and Minthara but you don't get their tadpoles. For Dror Ragzlin, have your strongest character invised then move near him, then have another character do something to make him get out of his chair. Once out of his chair, a well-aimed Shove will toss him down the chasm behind his platform.

For Minthara, try to position your party just before getting on the bridge. When she attacks, she should be standing on the bridge. Just attack the bridge and she drops into the chasm.

Welp.

Killed Halsin and figured I’d keep the goblins on my side. (Drow)

Then talked to the goblin priestess who triggered a fight and aggrod every goblin in the area.

They all funneled in one by one, so easy fight and a lot of xp.

I cracted the red scale mail armor and ademantite mace at the forge. Originally was going to do heavy srmor and mace but shadowhearts strength is so low i wound up giving the mace and heavy helm to my barbarian and med armor to shadowheart. Gonna see if i can sail back and find the drow. After i inevitably kill all these slaver dreugs

I went with the splint mail (for La'zel) and scimitar (for my bard).

Last night's last fight was insane! For those not wanting spoilers, skip over the rest of this post now.

If you save the druid grove, Halsin will encourage you to go to Moonrise through the Underdark. When you get back up top in the shadowed lands (bring torches) you'll eventually go to the Last Light Inn. Eventually there will be a fight to save the cleric (Isobel) who is protecting the Inn. I don't know if letting her get kidnapped (or if she dies) blocks the Art Cullagh quest (Wake Art Cullagh), but I refused to allow her to be kidnapped and was able to keep her alive through the ensuing fight.

There, in the back of the inn, you'll encounter Art Cullagh who is in a sick delirium.

The short and dirty on this is that you need to find his lute, it will be southwest of the Last Light Inn in the House of Healing. The lute will be on the corpse of Malus Thorm. The best way to beat him is to have someone with high charisma (your own character or Astarion) talk him into having his assistants kill themselves (they're all batshit crazy) and then convince him to kill himself. Loot the lute then head back to Last Light (it has a map portal) and play it for Art. You'll need to go to your camp and tell Halsin, he'll show up to talk to Art and that will lead to the next big fight as the Absolute tries to shut down what you're up to.

Halsin will create a portal to rescue a magical being from some other plane. Your job is to protect his portal for 3 or 4 rounds. It's an open area and a shitload of enemies spawn throughout the fight. The key to winning the fight is to first understand where things spawn. For the fight I'll talking about positioning in reference to facing the portal (ie: with the Inn behind you).

Because of the terrain and the amount of enemies, you'll want your characters all on top of the plateau where you talk to Halsin. You'll also want to stage the fie;d

Spectral enemies (which can teleport) will be the first things to spawn, they'll show up at the edge of the water on the left side of the battlefield then port up in front of you. The key phrase here is "in front of you". I positioned my team with enough room to throw up a wall of Clouds of Daggers so that they teleported right into it and then could not move forward from it.

The next wave will be crows and dogs being teleported onto the right side of the field. This is where the majority of enemies will come from over the course of the fight. They have fairly low health and no range ability so they too will commit suicide against the whirling blade-nados. Along with them will be some humanoids who have bows/arrows. They'll fire on your team and the portal. Here's where battle strategery comes into play...

The first thing you'll want to do to buy spells from Mistress Tywiil (the merchant lady at the entrance to the Inn area). I've seen some writeups saying she sold scrolls of Stonewall, but she didn't have them for me. Instead she had a couple of Ice Storm scrolls and a Fireball scroll. Either she had a Cloudkill or I found one (can't remember) but I bought what she had and I spread them among my characters who have little to no ranged AE abilities.

The next is find every barrel, crate and bag you can find around the area and bring it to the battlefield. Since the vast, VAST majority of damage dealt to the portal will come from those bow-using humanoids, you'll want to use those crates and barrels to build a wall on the right side of the plateau. Build it three high as two high will still allow the ranged users to hit it.

You'll notice a torch at the water's edge on the right side of the field. Just left of that, in a line from the water's edge toward the Inn (to the edge of the cleric's protective barrier) you'll build another wall. The idea here is to do whatever you can to hold back that tide for as long as you can. Try stacking them three high but be sure to save some for another internal wall. That second wall will be shorter and come from the water's edge right at the right side of the plateau (near the brazier). The idea for this wall is to better channel the humanoids, dogs and birds into coming in at you only from the front once they break through (and they will).

By keeping them more corralled you are also making them group closer together. At this point, toss out an Ice Storm, Cloudkill or Fireball. If you have something like a Stinking Cloud or two (something which will lock them in place for a turn or two), that will work as well. The idea for this is to stall them if you can't kill them outright.

During this, more specters will appear on the left and some roots will spawn (the roots have low health). Focus single target damage on the things not being killed or stopped/paused by your AE spells.

One of the specters will port in behind your team to attack the portal by hand. By the time you take this one down (has some decently high health) you should be nearing the end of the fight (there's a counter on the right side of your UI). More enemies will spawn again on the right side of the field, your goal now is to continue trying to take them out as they funnel around your walls.

If your strategy, spells and health hold out, the remaining enemies on the field will die the moment Haslin and his charge come back through the portal.

The fight is long simply because there are so many combatants taking turns (similar to the fight in the Inn) but it gives a looot of exp and is very satisfying.

Shadowheart + Spirit Guardians were the MVP of that fight at the lake for me. Spirit Guardians might be the most op spell in the game, especially against hordes of enemies. You cast it once, and then every turn after that just dash and run around the battlefield burning enemies.
