Yea the best thing about this game is definitely the ping/spot system.
I’ve just been having too much trouble landing and trying to find weapons. I’ll find attachments and what not for days or a shotgun but man I hate that. Also ammo seems kinda sparse unless you get it off of bodies.
I’ve been using Bangalore for my character and her special ability needs a buff. Seems like you can only throw her mortar strike out but 10 feet in front of you.

There is a cave/facility in the very center of the map that i've been having some good luck with. On either side of it are three supply crates as well. Run into people every now and then, but it has been a good place to loot up.

I'm guessing the only place to test out these is in the training room, start it and just not do the tutorial stuff? The few times I've played I really wished I had a better feel for the abilities and felt like a liability.

The game also reads your text chat. On PS4 hold down the touchpad to bring up the keyboard. I used that last night to tell my team not to risk trying to respawn me.
i got into an argument last night on reddit about relying on the ping system.it's a nice addition to the communication aspect, but relying on just that is dumb in my opinion.
one, if you get shot in the back and don't know where it's coming from, you stop and look for a place to "ping". in the mean time, i'm still pushing to the zone. next thing i know, you're dead and i have to come all the way back to save the day. or attempt to at least.
second, it's much better to alert your teammates with a mic. it just is. using the ping feature just adds to it with better accuracy on where the threat and/or items are located.
third, imagine if our military used nothing but this "ping" system. nothing will ever beat voice to voice communication. never.
i don't know whether to laugh or shake my head to "hold down the touchpad to bring up the keyboard" suggestion.

you're so leet, finch
ETA I don't think anyone is saying using the ping system ALONE is preferable to voice chat....or maybe they are, I haven't kept up. But if you're not with a party and get paired with 2 other players, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there is an in-game team chat that automatically gets set up (I didn't notice it the short time I've played), so having a ping system like this, so fleshed out with so many options, is a huge help and can work if you use it right.

You are incorrect.
There is an in game group chat. I was talking to randoms.
Regardless the ping system is nice even with a mic. Being able to ping the enemies exact location instead of having my teammate yell "behind me" helps.

Is there a prompt to get that going or are you automatically in it?
Again, I've played 3 games of it.

I’m not saying the system is better than mics, obviously not. I’m saying to account for people who don’t have mics, the system is great. The keyboard option is a last resort feature too. It’s not useful to plan strategy with.

You’re automatically in it unless you’re in a party chat already.

Auto if your mic is attached.
I played 4 games with randoms
3 of them nobody said anything.
1 game me and 1 of the guys talked the entire match but the 3rd was silent. We won then all of a sudden the 3rd started screaming "wooooo and that was my first match" I assume that kid hooked up his mic to celebrate but heard us talking the entire time.

I guess I've gotten lucky. Been paired with adults with mics who knew what they were doing for the most part. The biggest learning curve for me is going to be these special abilities and when to use them.

I said kid. I didn’t mean it literally. He was probably at least in high school. The other guy sounded 30.

I know what happened. I was in a party chat with a friend before playing Apex and forgot to exit out of it.
BTW, Human Fall Flat is crazy good fun with a friend or two.

This is an odd criticism. I don’t think anyone in here at least, would argue the Ping system is better than having a mic - however ping system is very useful. As another user mentioned, it’s a lot easier on me to know exactly where an enemy is shooting from instead of “near 260 by the trees” when there’s tons of trees and I can see for what feels like miles. PUBG especially would benefit from a ping system.

i've really just been peeved that no one uses a mic at all. when i got into an argument on reddit last night about it, i had a guy say, "i don't need a mic. i just use the ping system."
i then told him how retarded he was.

Just realized the only white male playable character is the toxic bomber guy lol
Or at least he looks white

it's interesting that stating a fact elicits a 'oh joy, here we go' response

because I can see where this is going from a mile away
