Anyone else a bit burnt out on all games seeming made in unreal engine 4/5?

I understand it’s a great engine. It makes thing easier for developers and if done correctly the graphics look better than in most any other. That said they look so good and photorealistic it can have an uncanny valley and grading approach when its almost every game. I miss the stylization of art styles in more titles like breath of the wilds art style for example.

I wouldn't necessarily say I'm burned out, but I'm worried about the rumors of Halo switching to it.
Like you said, it's a great engine, but Halo (like many other games) has a specific feel that I'm worried will be lost with an engine switch.
I don't want every game to be Gears of War, regardless of how incredible it looks

Putting aside how it steam-lines development for devs, it has a particular feel and outcome that’s just not at home in stylized games with certain feelings as you said. Square modified a version of unreal 5 for ff16 and that game is one the engine was absolutely designed for in feel, tone, and their goals of wha the game is going to be looks wise.
I worry the success of games who use it, the ease of just licensing it, and the streamline design for devs will lead to all games being homogenous

Seems like in theory at least it would allow developers to focus more on the story and execution rather than spending years with limited numbers of home grown developers worrying about how to get their platform to work without glitches.
That would mean more games, shorter development times and less patches to make games playable post launch.
I mean it’s akin to an author using Windows or OSX rather than having to create their own OS to type out a story. Focus on the narrative instead of reinventing the wheel.

Yes that is a serious upside I did highlight in the OP. There is a trade off for it though as I outlined. Unreal is surprisingly rigid in one way and it’s what your game can actually look like, in turn setting the tone and all that follows. I just don’t want some games to lose that special art style for the sake of cheaper licensing engine that admitted will make things easier for them to make games and faster.
Also not all games are story and narrative driven. Would you want FromSoft to move to unreal 5 in their soulsbournesekiro style of games? I sure as hell would not

theres more styelized games and anime-inspired games now than ever. how can you "miss" them when they are everywhere? makes no sense. :lol"
And here's Dark Soul's III UE5 Upscaled. looks fricking incredible. who wouldnt want this?

That’s just simply not true. At least bigger budget games with scope or something above middle ware. Yeah Japan cranks out a lot but a lot of it shite and a lot that wasn’t is begging to adopt unreal 5.
I wouldn’t want UR5 for a dark souls game because, I’ll admit the draw distance is insane, the fidelity of background can’t be topped and more. I’ve said it’s a good to great engine just not right for all games. That is because it can really only actually produce one kind of art style so to speak and that’s cutting edge photorealistic human mocapped into uncanny valley territory. And that’s great for some stuff like FF16 is going for a world grounded in something real with a GoT type revenge plot. It’s fantasy yes but set much more in a grounded realism than Dark Souls and it doesn’t fit dark souls, it doesn’t fit elden ring, or Bloodbourne. I’d be happy with a Sekiro remake of it in UR5 lol

nothing screams grounded realism like fighting a giant mythical creature as hit point values and ridulcuouls particle effects splurge all over the screen.
also, the fact gams like Blue Protocol, DQ11, and SMTV are UE4 games kinda blows up the whole premise of your argument.

We are talking unreal 5 here as it’s current gen. It’s not like im making this shite up out of thin air. Go listen to “the experts” talk about this shite and complain about it. And no not journalist fricks. Devs, insiders, etc.
And yes all fantasy worlds have to have some grounding in a reality of their own picking and choosing what they bring from our world or the story without this the story would suck and make no sense. Harp on about summons fighting but the game isn’t about that anymore that halo is about a set piece battle on a warthog. It’s a story of revenge and the loss of a princes title and brother on a revenge tour for 20 odd years.
Soulsborne that exactly ain’t as much as I love them. I know many people have a hard on for unreal 5 for some reason and it s a great engine they can produce amazing games. But I just don’t get white knighting for corporate licensing to studios not in need of its capabilities but ease of use turning our gaming stale.
If you don’t care to go research all of the 5 min of articles to read maybe 10. Throw in a YouTube video being you to 20 min total then it’s not worth discussion with you.
Also check when those games you listed came out to just reiterate a point. Unreal 5 is not unreal 4

Halo has been dead, and Halo Infinite cast the franchise into the Shadow Realm.

Halo lit itself on fire and jumped off Mount Everest.
Epic bedshitting. The drip-fed content for ten years plan was so laughable.

Lol you must be new here. You’ll quickly learn that this is the case with pretty much anything he has to say

I feel like UE4 is one of the few game engines that I legitimately can't easily tell the game x is running on y engine because it's used in so many different types of games from so many different developers.
That said, I find that American developers tend to do much better with UE4 than some Japanese games I have played, but I think that's just because it has taken longer for UE4 to catch on in Japan as a lot of Japanese developers still like to use their own, in-house engines.

The devs will never complain about unreal as it relates to how easy it makes doing their job and cross platform development.
They have complained about what I’m posing here which is getting the expected reaction because unreal is insanely popular and for mostly good reasons. Why should I do your work for you if I’m such an idiot as a few propose it should be a simple 2 minute search to dunk on me.
Ofc I’m not making it up, youll see that, and just exit thread. I’d prefer more companies what capcom has with the incredible reengine and use unreal when and where appropriate

Funny how the usual rabble (not posters
Like sic boy who I respect but Alabama Josh who is a fricking cousin raping inbred) couldn’t bother to find one thing to dunk on me with despite it being their obsession. Must be coincidence, or maybe they’re just not as informed as they believe to be because of what some YouTube pundit with 12 million subs told them what to thknk

Quick downvote and the search will now be on resulting in some sub tack or blog with 20 people reading it as a dunk
ITT I presented a perfectly well reasoned take about my worries with unreal, preferring companies with the resources for it follow capcom with re engine, all giving unreal much of the proper respect it deserves. But since 70% of this board are casuals at best and have only been told Unreal 5 is Christ second coming they view it as a personal attack on themselves. Losers
And no, I dont mean casual as pejorative its simply the reality of what many who post here are. You see in all the time with how much time they have to play games, asking about certain genres, etc.
