I was going to start a RPG for NSwitch thread but search for RPGs and found this.

Why is it that I look at trailers for the newer FF games and none look appealing?

I like Tales of Vesperia

Trials Of Mana is good. DQ11 is great!

Any news on DQ12?

I noticed that there is a Selda BOTW sale does that mean BOTW2 in 22? Soon already?

I’ve developed a very style unique to me for my fave modern JRPGs. Sometimes games like nier or something come along and break it but in general. A very engaging very sharp and graphically pretty story, story is but I’m a man who lose my stories. As long as combat serves as a vehicle for some epic journey I don’t mind too much. I mean FF7 was one of the easiest games ever. Same with 8. Same with 10 expect a few skills checks. Which I’m fine with like how the newest DQ did them. Long story most times I come to my JRPGs which are known for their style of storytelling for just that, and abide gameplay, if it’s engaging then amazing. FF has managed it, so had DQ, and smaller places. Like some people will not sit through a Japanese high school waifu sim for 200 hours to see what I consider one of the best games made of all time. And I get that. But I mean if you’ll sit through ff15 you can’t do p5?

I'm about to start FF XV after I wrap up everything I want to do in DQ 11.

I was never really excited about it, but seeing it get some love here has me pumped.

Allow me to put it to you this way. FF is my favorite franchise going back to 6 and JRPGs all of shapes and styles are my favorite genre. Play DQ. There’s are a few okay things in 15. Tbh it’s not good at all. I really liked the 13 trilogy too. Like I can name some problems, unless you have th Royal edition and even if you do a bunch of shite won’t make any sense because it was all alt media, setting the game open world had its bro trip vibe but it’s filled with NOTHING but fetch this dog tag, hunt this beast, find this legendary blade you’re family shouldn’t lose. There’s a good story here but you’ll have to work far beyond the base game for it. All the DLC helps in this a lot especially Prompto. Idk it’s a nice journey to go on and goes from brotrip to ducking serious but you’ll be given like 9 warnings. Combat in 15 is another injury is impossible to die without self handicaps. Tbh DQ is longer by like 3x, better in every way

If you are talking about P5. You better know what you are getting into.

It's not even close in my opinion. I despise these new trends of being in a school with a dating sim type feature, even if they are well done. That trend is obviously huge in Japan and it targets their audience. But it is being so overdone. FE 3H was ruined by this.
Some people seem to love this, but I don't understand it.

PS: This is an old thread, but the first couple of lines is wrong in the OP. DQ11 was never a switch exclusive. It launched on PC and ps4 first. It was ported to the Switch in an updated version. Which later released everywhere.

It has many exclusive things. Like outfits weapons gameplay things switch only. And lol and calling out P5 one of without doubt the best designed games EVER made even if it’s not for you. Criticize it for something other than “it’s a Japanese high school sim lol” that’s just their vehicle to tell an extremely powerful story from a AAA study who gave us wayyyyyyyyyyy more than could’ve been expected from state of play this day and age. Music and art alone seal it. Royal ads like 40 hours and 3 super bosses.

I’m not saying the game is without faults either. Like legit real faults. Just shitting on a beloved game because the high school backdrop for conveying non combat info doesn’t play is fine if it doesn’t work for you. It doesn’t make it back and mostly it was rwalllly well done in this game. I’m not being mean or targeting you btw. The P5 hate is just so lazy.

I don't like it, it's okay if you do. I don't get into romancing characters, it feels like filler to me.

?? Still doesn't mean it launched on switch only.

So .5% of P5 feels like filler and that’s a dealbreaker. Did you enjoy Witcher 3 or many other games your spend more time romancing? How much of it did you even play? Almost always I find people who don’t like it didn’t finish the first palace. I’m just curious is all. And that’s not to hard to imagine the game throws 300 things at you after in media res

I will also admit I prepared to secure a treasure route in one day ASAP then steal it the next. Leaving me with like 25 mostly unvoiced mundane class days or working at a transgender bar with no voices for the acting. A problem for sure

The social link system of the game is huge turn off.
I don't want to spend time balancing time spent with characters.

The high school setting is also a huge turn off.
Just like any anime these days.

People like these types of games, I understand that.
It is not for me.

It's not hating on the game. I was just warning the guy not to expect the greatest JRPG of all time.

its not my fave in the series and has its flaws, and being action orientated quite different, but i think its a great game all around. i hope you enjoy it.

ive never been a big DQ guy, is 11 worth sinking teeth into?

Social links feed back into gameplay meaning the more you spend with sometime the more rewards you get in combat or rarely out of it

The high school setting is just part of persona. It’s be weird if FF starting taking place in sourh France.

I think you’ve missed 80% easily of why people like these games. Especially cause social links tend to get better and it’s time especially for party members and aside from hangman who I never care for in these games all of them are great.

It qualifies in my opinion for that discussion. What does it lack, specifically?

DQ 11 is amazing. Buy it on switch not matter what poster above said you get 20 extra outfits, gameplay perks like Eric is way better. You get a whole 2ds game mode called tockles I think never got ported from switch where you play old school game boy style 3 situations from each previous title. It gives lore and I won’t spoil it but about who the hero is. It’s for persona 5 length and quality I mean the game ends like 3 times. It’s 100% turn based which is a rare find and the tockles people actually house the true boss of the game

The game can get hard as frick btw. 100% harder than FF15

The first 2 acts are master class. It falls a bit at the end but the game is soooooo long it’s hard not to

The updated version that switch has is now on every platform. Even xbox. Buy it on whatever you want, if you want the game.

I don't know how many times I have to say it is my opinion. I don't like P5 that much, I understand that you and plenty of people do. There is nothing to discuss.

I'm almost done with DQ, only doing some overworld stuff.

Honestly, I want to find time to do the Xenoblades over again. Both are just so dang fun. Anyone in this thread who doesn't have a Switch should buy one for those games and DQ 11. It's worth it.
