Activision ends the whole physical media debate before the next generation even arrives

This guy owns a physical copy of black ops 6. When you put it in it no longer will install black ops 6.

Anyone that thinks there is a difference between physical and digital these days needs to watch this and realize the disc is only a physical device to access your digital media. Its still digital media.
In this case its worse than digital media because the disc is broke and u no longer have access to ur digital version. Brings back memories of when i was a kid having to buy multiple copies of the same game if the disc got scratched or use one of those disc fixer machines that onlybworked sometimes.

So my question is this. How the frick is this legal. I paid full price for a game disc that requires online verification and Activision broke the drm on the disc. I have a friend on Xbox who said he had the same issue with both his disc and the version via gamepass. So now my full price game i paid for on disc is completely useless unless I go and buy the game again digitally.

I’m generally not one for calling for the involvement of our feckless, incompetent legislative branch, but I think we might be overdue for a revamp of our licensing laws.

There are two solutions to this issue listed on the reddit thread linked in the OP. If you follow some of the links in the thread, you'll also see that this issue was solved months ago.
No one has lost access to BO6 and no one who owns the physical disc has to repurchase the game digitally to gain access.

This is a growing trend but absolutely not the case in the over whelming majority of disc based games.
Most disc based games to this date you can put into your system and the game installs/plays fully 100% from the disc. It may be an older, unpatched version of hte game that is obviously missing stuff, but that's what you can play, the same way you always have.
Unfortunately there has been a growing trend to sell essentially fake discs (or as Nintendo calls them Game Key Cards) that have no data ont he disc and just act as a digital permission slip.
But just because those in column B exist doesn't mean column A doesn't exists. The vast majority of releases ond isc are still data on disc playable.

To be clear, these are all third party games. No first party Nintendo games utilize Game Key Cards.

Yep.. And the juice isnt worth the squeeze. There are games i bought on steam i can no longer play. Guess what, it's not the end of the world. I just play other games. There isnt enough time in the world to play em all anyway haha

But companies going out of their way to antagonize the "physical" crowd is making me more sympathetic to them
