Zapp's "Boudin" Balls

Saw these at Walmart the other day and bought some. Don't let the same thing happen to you.
First of all, they're not boudin. There's no liver in them.
Second, they're too hot. They taste like Zapp's Crawtater chips seasoning, but with way too much cayenne It's the same old story with Yankees trying to reproduce that Cajun flavor. They think Cajun means hot.
The balls are made with andouille, not the pork you'd expect. The flavor is all wrong and not good in any way. Don't waste your money.

I can’t see how you can go wrong with sausage and Zapps? Maybe it’s not what it’s marketed to be but it still sounds fricking awesome.

If they were called spicy fried sausage balls would you think they were ok? Wondering if you didn’t like them because you were expecting something different.

We have plenty of zapps and boudin at our disposal. I'm thinking maybe a 50/50 mix of Crawtator and Voodoo for the crust.

The box actually calls them "sausage and rice fritter balls".

This sort of mis-naming annoys me. It's not boudin, so why call it boudin? Even worse coming from a brand name most people in LA like.

At least they spelled it correctly. There are places in Texas that label it as boudAin. Makes me wonder if they label it this way because it isnt actually boudin or if thats how they think its spelled.

That said, there was an in-store setup I ran across that was pushing out Manda Boudin Balls to folks. This product is coming alarmingly close to Tony's Seafood in Baton Rouge. Worth putting on your things to try list.

You get very fired up when people say true jambalaya doesn't have tomatoes....but draw the line at boudin and liver?

They're spelling it like they pronounce it. Not a big deal to me. S LA French is primarily an oral language, you see all sorts of non-standard orthography on roadside signs. It's like "plarine" vs "praline"....my long-dead French speaking grandmother and many others I know "mis-"pronounce the word and reverse the L and the R.

Yall do know Zapp's isn't a Louisiana company anymore right? They finally changed the info on the back of the bags 5 or 6 years ago.

You are right they are not boudin balls and dont taste like em either. I admit I liked the spiciness and the craw tator flavor. They were good in the 2:30 am drunk Totinos pizza rolls meaning of good.

I grew up in South Lafourche and I’ve always said plarine.
People that say praline probably say pee-can.

I've heard of "Prah-leen" and "Pray-leen"
I've heard of "Pa-cawn" and "Pee-can"
I've never heard of "Play-reen"

We pronounce it Plah-reen. Similar to "Prah-leen" but with a L instead of R.
Again depends where you grew up.
How ever it’s pronounced they all taste good.

Well I did drive it a few years after I retired from my real job, so I guess you could say I rode it.
Just saying.
