If Crooked Letter Brewing hasn't signed with a distributor in Baton Rouge I'm not sure they would be able to serve at Zapps.

Really? It's all handled and operated by the distributors?

I believe so...

Since commercial breweries have to sell beer to the event and cannot donate it, and commercial breweries cannot sell directly to events.

All commercial beer must go through a distributor (I think there is an exception for brew pubs).

This could be a result of the new restrictions being imposed on beer festivals by the ATC.

In the past a brewery could simply brew something off the wall and serve it at Zapps.

Since breweries are no longer allowed to 'donate' beer to the festival, they have to brew something, sell it to a local distributor, pay the state their taxes, have the distributor sell it to Zapps at retail, and finally donate the same price of the keg back to Zapps.

That's about the most bass-ackwards asinine thing I've heard in ages. I hope they can change the laws about this soon.

Get in touch with your state reps. Hebert said they were looking to change it this session, but they didn't have a sponsor yet. You can spin it by saying it promotes small businesses and encourages tourism.

Would have been nice to see Great Raft out of Shreveport down here too. Maybe another distribution issue. Perhaps Crooked Letter and Great Raft will both make it next year. Getting better all the time. (yes, more bathrooms please!)

The bill is 'House Bill 1036', the bill has picked up 4 sponsors in addition to the author.

I'm surprised they got it going that fast. Kudos to them. Now to get it passed.

I didn't try that one. I want to support Tin Roof, because they're local and the owners seem like decent guys. But their beers are just so "meh". The only one I every now and then get an urge to drink is Watermelon Wheat.

Would have liked to attend. Does it always occur the same weekend as Hogs?

I know the wife slipped off an found a bathroom pretty quick, not sure she may have used a tree.

It was 2.5hrs so getting a bathroom seemed like an unnecessary waste of time. Just hold it a few minutes.

Home brewers killed it. Could see a festival just with them, but sure that the big dogs would shite all over that.

Food options were good and really quick. Thought that the crowd was handled extremely well and that only restriction was due to ATC people being prickish. (They were checking IDs before the gate and handing out wristbands. Basically were streamlining the entry, but someone shut that down because they were checking "too far away from the gate")

Tin roofs pepper beer was inventive, but tasted like freezer burnt ice.

They released that for ACBW this past year, so they had gone through the registration process for it already (to address an earlier question)
