Yukon river salmon

At seafood market and owner telling me that while copper river salmon is good, the best is yukon river salmon. Local natives get first fish and only sell extra left over
Longer river and more good fats to the fish.
Any additional thoughts or info appreciated

He's correct. Yukon River king salmon has more fat content because they migrate further than any other Pacific Salmon. The second best is Copper River Sockeye (red) Salmon.
Kenai River salmon (both King and Red) would be third.
Farmed Salmon has a higher saturated fat than all, but has too much IMO.
Yukon Kings are having a poor year so they'll be extremely expensive this fall/winter.

I prefer king salmon to sockeye simply because I like my salmon on the fattier side. With that said, I don't much care which river it comes from, though that could be ignorance on my part.

King has less flavor than sockeye or coho IMO. And it's overpriced.

He didn't have any. I just asked about copper and he brought up yukon

In a blind taste test, people actually preferred Kenai to copper. Early copper is damn good though.
Copper and Yukon are lengthy, salmon starve themselves until they spawn and die. They have to have ample fat reserves in those rivers to make it to spawning grounds.

Kuskokwim salmon are the best hands down
Gf doesn't like Yukon salmon because of the oil content...said it's too oily...and she's a Yu'pik from Bethel
