Places like Avenue pub and The Cove have developed a very loyal clientele that supports them, but I'm sure as hell not starting out that way.

And The Cove still has BMC in bottles. I think Avenue Pub might as well... not positive.

Exactly and they are not going to a daiquiri shop.

If a daiquiri place had some good taps I'd go. It's just that I've never seen a daiquiri place with good taps.

Do beer geeks like sandwiches that are delicious? Would they appreciate a few options while out dining? Lo might a few options with a delicious sandwich bring them to said establishment?

To deny a daiquiri/sammich shop in BR BMC taps, is laughable. I love craft brews as much as many and support them when possible, but telling a guy who is probably leveraging his restaurant w/ lots of debt or his own personal money that he shouldn't put them in because they aren't as profitable or that he is wasting good tap space is just bad advice.

Agreed. Not sure if anybody did that in this thread .. seems like there should be a definite distinction between one's dream world and reality.

I know Ave Pub didn't start out as such a craft beer heavy bar .. it was a slow and progressive growth to gain their current following. Cove had Port Royal as a jumping off point and had Ave Pub as a business model.

Not only do they want the option of drinking something besides BMC, they want the option of drinking many different craft beers (this is also a lynchpin of socializing in these settings - it stimulates conversation) and in some cases not even have BMC or BMC-type clientele at the bar.

Exactly. One of the reasons I don't visit the Bulldog in BR often. Although they can have some great beer on tap, it's the proliferation of the mouthbreathers who just want to blow through pitchers of Mich Ultra that keep me away. That, and I smell like an ashtray when I leave.

But for purposes of a small restaurant with 11 taps, all I ask is for a few local craft taps.

Friend of mine owns a handful of restaurants/bars in the area. His top 11 sellers are (in order):
Bud Light
Michelob Ultra
Miller Light
Coors
Abita Amber
Budweiser
Andygator
Shiner Bock
Abita Purple Haze
Blue Moon
Bud Light Platinum

Those 11 count for 71% of his beer sales. Bud Light alone is almost 20%.

I'm not a beer geek but enjoy craft beer. You'd have to have some pretty good food to get me in.

Yep, the Avenue Pub gets a lot of early morning business from EMS and over night workers. They keep the BMC around for these guys.

If a place has 2 good to decent taps, but has a majority of shite taps, then it better be very close to my house. I'm not traveling to a bar for 2 good beer options, to be next to the Rugby Team who's drinking out of the pitcher.

The only BMC I've ever seen someone drinking at Ave Pub is bottled Miller High Life. I know for a fact they don't take up any of their taps with it. You're telling me they keep Bud Light, Coors, etc in stock? Is it just an early morning thing? Never seen it, and I've been there a lot.

They don't put it on tap, but I'm almost positive (and the other guy agreed) that they keep it in bottles for some of the late night service industry crowd.

I remember Polly having a big FB discussion about whether to keep it in bottles even.

Yeah

One of the reasons I like the pizza place near my house is that they have a big beer cooler where you can just grab your own beer as if you were at a liquor store and bring it to the bar.

When you have 30 beers to choose from that's more inviting to the beer geek culture than just a couple of brews that the beer geeks like.

Yep, pretty sure that's the case. Homeless bum type guy walked in as I was sipping some pink beer out of a fluted glass and threw down some dollas for a BL and walked out.

beer geeks do not spend lots of money at a place for the food. now i will pick one place over the other if beer is the same and food is better

nothing about your tap list...NOTHING....says beer geek

now put goose island sofie on tip and offer growler fills and then we can start to talk

oh yeah Mardi Gras comes around Ave Pub is a different place. limited selection and more BMC to choose from. MG 2012 they had these fricking Miller Lite stations or whatever slinging swill in plastic cups to people off the street. nice business move .. have no problem with them bringing in dough based on the tastes of the crowds they're bound to get during MG.

No, but if I'm going out for dinner and I know place A has a few local beers on tap and place B doesn't, it might help me choose place A. Assuming the food is comparable.

I never said that they kept it on tap, but yes they keep Bud Light and Miller High Life in stock. I'm not certain about other BMC brands.
