He has an historical knowledge of the NOLA restaurant scene that I don't think anyone can match. He should concentrate on that. He can't keep up on new trends. All he talks about are the old line restaurants and the 4-5 places on the Northshore that he frequents.

Another thing that irks me is he has always detested chain restaurants, but he does commercials for New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood Co., so when asked for burger recommendations, he will say he thinks their burgers are really good.
Friends went recently to one of the Metairie locations and said everything they ordered - burgers and seafood, was all bad.

That's his strength. Interesting to read and hear about, but not all the time.
He's got a wonderful article Warren Leruth under the extinct restaurant list for LeRuth's. Well worth a read.

He mentions frequently that LeRuth’s was his favorite restaurant after Antoine’s

Yeah, but what about Andrea's?

Did one of his eat clubs back in the late 2000s at Pelican Club. Was a great time. He moved around from table to table telling stories and was nice as could be.

He loves Andrea and his restaurant, that’s for sure.

I’ve never been to Andrea’s but read a lot of reviews on Yelp. There are a lot of negative reviews. Does anyone have any input?

Do not take any advice from anyone who recommends that restaurant. It's been awful forever.

Did an interview with him a few months ago, and he may be the single nicest and most entertaining writer around.

I was only joking about asking about Andrea's. TF used to pimp them very hard and suggest them to anyone who was looking for a Metairie restaurant. After enough people complained to him that Andrea would over book and not keep up a good quality all the time, he finally backed off on showing so much love. That was maybe five years ago.
It's an ok restaurant at best.

It might have had a brief moment of quality back in the early 80s, but for my entire adult lifetime, it's been mediocre. It does have a faithful following, many of whom adore the place, but it's a throwback to an older era of dining: interior is dark, dowdy, and the focus today is most definitely NOT on the careful treatment of seasonal ingredients. I endured a banquet meal there a few years ago that was the worst of its type I've ever had the misforture to endure. Wan bagged lettuce, complete w/drying carrot curls, watery bland lentil soup, some gloppy stuffed pasta entree, and a forgettable dessert. It was an offense to associate such food with Italy.
