...going to Spec's later this week and have no idea what is good/great/nasty in the chardonnay department.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

TIA

That’s a difficult question.

Does the intended drinker like California Chardonnay or White Burgundy? Two vastly different styles right there.

New world:

Newton unfiltered
Far niente
De Wetshof Bateleur (If they have it, south African)

Old world:

William fevre Chablis
Moreau-Naudet Chablis
Olivier Leflaive - Les Setilles (my pick out of all these, and should even be under $40)

Splurge pick: pahlmeyer 2020, napa. Around $110-115, but should be lower with the specs cash/debit price plus case deal.

If you want a butter bomb, there's nothing better than rombauer. They also have a Sauvignon Blanc that they age a bit in oak. It's almost like a baby version of the chard, it's really good.

Fantastic cabs too in the $100+ range.

You don’t need to spend that much for a really good Chardonnay.

I’ll throw in Keenan, Venge and I think you can maybe get Heitz in that $50ish range.

Les Setilles is a favorite of mine too. Pairs well with spicy food and most seafood.

I would ask them to recommend a good white French Burgundy which should be easy to find in that price range.
