I like them both but I find California Pinot’s are a bread of their own.

Popped a 2010 Coup de Foudre last night--perfection. Sonoma County fruit made by Louisiana's own Kent Jarman.

I moved into bdx because I can't afford burgundy but wanted to to develop a palate for something old world

Now i've moved into rioja because I can't afford bordeaux

I'll be drinking out of a box before long at this rate

There are plenty of affordable Burgandy's that are fantastic.

Rioja is also an great wine. There are affordable Bordeaux wines that are great as well. You just have to dig a little and get into the second and third growths.

Sangiovese is the GOAT grape though.

Nearly half of the racks I posted the photo of earlier in the thread are Sangiovese. Fantastic grape.

but why is Sangiovese so hard to find in your typically grocery store?

You can't find Chianti Classico in the grocery store?

Nah man I’m a bargain hunter

But I do go to total wine and stare at the $700 bottles of wine till they think I’m casing the place.

There are tons of just plain Nebbiolo's that are fantastic daily drinkers and easy on the budget.

Oh, and though I love Sangiovese Nebbiolo is probably the GOAT grape.

How does Petite Syrah stack up to you?

David Fulton Vineyards in Napa Valley makes a Petit Syrah that is to die for. So far, he's held out and hasn't sold to the cab sav growers.

Learned today that Nebbiolo is Barolo.
Apparently there’s a huge controversy about Barolo. On which side do you fall?

Didn’t realize Chianti was Sangiovese

I’ve learned two things today

Aren't most Toscanos made from sangiovese?

Now I will take a Sonoma Coast or a Russian River Valley over Oregon any day.

Likewise, got a deal on a case today and the better half has been enjoying these so may as well load up so she will leave the others alone very solid Pinot.

I agree with a (significant) caveat. I love pinots from Sonoma but great Russian River and Sonoma pinots are quite expensive, IME.

Yeah mostly, but a super tuscan can be 100% cab or merlot. It's pretty much a label for any tuscan that doesn't fit stricter definitions.

If you want sangiovese, Chianti by law is at least 80% and brunello is 100% sangiovese.

So what's the deal with the rooster on Chianti? Is that another regulation where it has to be from Chianti to have that tag?

Gallo Nero. It's a Chianti classico thing so yeah only those will have it, but it's just kinda a nod to their history.

The old school Barolo vs new? The newer Style Barolo are made to be drunk younger. I get that but opening a really old bottle still in its prime is an eye opening experience. And very expensive.

Chianti Classico is a very specific region in Tuscany. To bear the black rooster the wine much be from that region and must be made have a minimum amount of Sangiovese. I believe it’s 70-80%.
