Chadron=thistle....tasty if you catch it at the right time of spring.
The small seeds of the graines a voler plant (American water lotus) are collected, boiled, and eaten by some coastal Cajuns, though the practice is certainly Native American in origin.
RE: mushrooms, plenty in LA are poisonous. The easiest to identify is the oyster mushroom that grows on willow trunks in wet areas.

Picked me a nice little mess of Blackberries yesterday in the back yard.
enjoyed that
and its been 35 years at least since I had some Chadron/Thistle, but every time I see them on the levee it brings back memories

I know people in south Louisiana that harvest the wild plants that gigantic stickers on them. The plant has large flat leaves and the stickers are on the edges of the plant. When the weed is mature it has a white "flower" that looks like dirty cotton. People tell me that they clean the plant and remove all the leaves. They are left with a stalk that they put salt on and they claim that it tastes just like celery.
Not sure if this is a sarcastic post. But you are talking about Thistle. I love thistle. Haven't had any since i was a kid.

Thistles as I have always called them with the leaves cut off make a very good salad with nothing more than vinegar to soak in in the fridge. As I give it a bit of rethinking about it peeled sliced cucumber with it would add a nice bit of sweetness.

We have a shitload of dandelions in the yard, but as I can't be sure our dog hasn't soiled them, I'm afraid to try and eat them.

Did you read this article?
"it would taste awful and bitter: a sure sign the plant is not meant to eat."

Black berries the nectar of the gods in SELA.
I found a goldmine last year. I will be making a timely sales call down there at first of next week, I hope I time it right.

Is it black berries that are out right now or dew berries? I saw a good thicket in my back pasture this weekend. Just starting to turn

Dew berries are out right now. Black berries should be out later. Easiest way to differentiate: new growth on dew berries is red. Black berries it is green.
ETA: This page does a good job of describing some more of the differences as well: Blackberry vs Dewberry

In the North when I was a lad, we used to stop the family vehicle and cut wild asparagus. Absolutely delicious.

Not the stalk with the flower, the greens of the dandelion. Spring Mix packages in the produce section has them in it. They are consumed in France as a freebie from God in the wild.
