I don't get it... PJ's Coffee is a superior coffee to CC's, IMO.

Why can't PJ's coffee sustain in Baton Rouge? Down to one location remaining, and that's all the way downtown.

The PJs on Perkins was awesome if you wanted to wait 10 minutes for someone to quit fricking around in the back/get off their computer long enough to get you a coffee.

Starbucks>cc's or Pj's as far as chains go

Garden District is both cheaper(even after raising there prices) and far superior to all the above.

People are used to CC's and community crappy coffee.

When fresh flavorful coffee comes people are turned off because it taste different.

CC's is just weak and PJ's runs the show for Louisiana chain coffee.

Sadly, PJs quality varies widely from location to location. I work within blocks of two different PJs, and you'd think there would be no difference in the two. One is terrible, the other is okay. The terrible one always seems to have stale beans/bad coffee. At the bad location, the cold drip coffee is stored in plastic pitchers, so it always retains the slight flavor of whatever rotgut flavored crap was stored previously in the same pitcher. I swore off of it a while back, after I ordered a plain iced coffee that ended up tasting of kingcake/irish cream/praline/mocha. Blech.

1. Is the one on Essen closed?
2. Is it a franchise?

Starbucks are company owned so they control the stores. Franchises can be different from store to store and more so if the franchisor is not a stickler.

I find PJs coffee to carry too much of a burnt taste. Starbucks is too weak, and they overload it with syrups. CCs is kind of meh too. I prefer PJs out of these three, but I think most drinkers out there don't like the burnt taste. They like their coffee to not taste like coffee but rather a birthday cake with extra icing.

To find good coffee, you need to go to the places that carry Orleans Coffee Exchange's roasts. The two I know of are French Press and Cafe Beignet on Royal. I hit up FP whenever I don't feel like making my own, and CB is superior to Cafe DuMonde for both their coffee and beignets IMO.

Indeed, the independents using OCE's beans usually have a variety of roasts, fresher product, and less focus on the sugary dessert drinks.

French Truck in NOLA has a nice espresso roast...Gracious Bakery, Tartine, Ruby Slipper & a few other places use FT. There is also Try Me Coffee, but I haven't (tried it).

I agree. I have found most will rave about a coffee after filling it with cream and sugar. To each their own with how they fix it, but covering burnt with cream and sugar seems counterproductive when there are good tasting non-burnt coffees out there.

I weaned myself off both a few years back and was amazed at how coffee really tasted. I usually end up with a medium or medium/dark blend at the most. Dark and French taste like burnt oil to me.

People in BR cling to their CC, probably because it's one of the city's few identities.

Yeah, they always seemed understaffed. Plus, If I picked up a coffee in the morning, it was usually lukewarm by the time I made it to the office

PJs couldn't make it in Alexandria, even with no competition. I think the franchisee wasn't really into it.

CCs > PJs, but we can't get a CCs up here either. The only Starbucks are inside grocery stores.

PJ's tastes burnt to me, PJ's is more expensive, and their customer service is noticeably behind CC's and Starbucks. If you're going to charge more, your customer service better be spot on.

I hate this when I am travelling. Enter Starbucks into the GPS and get all excited and find out you are heading to Target or Kroger.
