He delivers to me so the best I can do is wave across MLK. Don't mind having a beer waiting for you though.

On their own they are very bland, tasteless and slimy. Always need doctoring. They are clearly more than abundant out of the gulf. So why so expensive?

Go work the deck of an oyster boat for a day, then when you get back to the dock, add up all the operating costs. You won't complain about the price anymore.

Most people have no clue about the cost of business. Speak to them of liability insurance and they are immediately lost.

Besides that you have terrible taste, you are also utterly ignorant. Have you ever heard of coastal erosion? Pollution? If you combine the two, you have a hugely dwindling area in which growing them for market is even possible. Considering that they take a few years to reach a marketable size and it's really a wonder how they are so cheap here.

You probably should have just asked why people like oysters, it would have made you sound like you just had bad taste...

I had a helper once that was the Captain for Motivatit Seafoods biggest boat. Dude told me he carried a sack of oysters in each hand when he was unloading the boat. He was about 6-4 265 and a legit friggen monster. Best helper I ever had, they weren't moving him up quick enough so he ended up going back on the boat.

He also told me sometimes they would plant oysters and that was done in the summer. They would go to a state lease and dredge oysters all morning run to their lease and shovel them overboard.

His boat was a refrigerated boat, so when they were harvesting, they would go out and dredge in the AM with smaller boats working with them. After they dredged all day for oysters the smaller boats would meet up with the big refrigerator boat and take on their catch. They would sleep fish the next day come in. Apparently you can't stay out overnight with a load of oysters unless they in a cooler.

Red Tide has shut down oysters in Alabama, Mississippi, and the 1st 10 areas of Lousiana for most of the past 2 months. Mobile Bay is still closed for harvesting due to high flood stages last month. Everybody is still playing catch up on the supply category. Best oysters I've had recent were from Capono Bay Tx

NW oysters are even better. Of course, $3 each in Marshall, CA or at Hog Island Oyster Co in SF or Napa.

I remember the days when I got them for $3 per dozen at the Chimes or Mike Andersons.
