They are competitive on a lot more items than you would think. 365 brands ( which is their store brand) has good canned prices. The milk and eggs are as cheap as anyone and the milk normally is cheaper than even Wal Mart.

I buy produce there that I can't get elsewhere. Beets for example.

Cheese, bakery and wine is moderately priced. Prepackaged dinner for two for $16.00 is a good deal.

Coincidentally, we buy fresh beets all the time, and beet juice. If you need, Fresh Pickins has them most of the time, about half the price. A very healthy food.

I hate overpaying, I don't care if I get to shop with the Harvard faculty, I expect value.

For some people, just to feel like they shopped at Whole Foods adds value. I don't really get this sentiment. I have been to Whole Foods before and where there is no competition they are just too expensive. We have a similar store here, but our regular grocers (sans Walmart) stock the same items for much less than the "Organic/Health food store."

Meh, I don't care for an entire smorgasbord on top of my pizzas. Quality, fresh, flavorful toppings are what interest me.

Isn't that what Papa Murphy's does best?

You obviously have no sense of humor, the laugh per aisle ratio is much higher at WalMart, but I never shop there for other reasons. Terrible meats & produce, not much selection of brands.

I don't have a sense of humor but you come on the food board to whine about paying two extra bucks for produce? Yeah dude I bet you're a blast to hang out with.

Rouses is ok, but shite, Whole Food is so much better.

esp for someone like me that only buys lunch food for the week and maybe 1-2 things to cook for dinner.

the "hot meal" options that WF has to eat blows Rouses out of the water. Both in quality and quantity.

not to mention much better pickings for produce/cheeses/all meats and seafood than Rouses.

Heard of Rouses but I've never been but your analysis of WF is in line with my thoughts on it as well and my lifestyle regarding cooking.

And you're writing a grocery store review for a grocery store that has been around for somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 or 6 years in Baton Rouge and even longer in many other cities. Yet, this was your first trip and you're amazed that it's more expensive. Really.

You're right. It took you five or six times of visiting the store to finally realize that it is more expensive than other grocery stores. So you're funny and smart. Awesome.

I agree. If you really look and compare you can find a lot of things that are the same or close in price. Admittedly, produce, seafood and some meats can be more expensive.

Here's the thing. WF has some items I can't find easily elsewhere, and some items are simply of better quality. I would rather pay a little extra and make one trip than spend my time and gasoline making three different stops to save a few bucks.

Exactly, I'm glad they're here, more choice is a good thing. For that type of store I prefer Fresh Market, not near the size or scope, but prices are slightly better, less crowded, easier for me to get to.
