Do y'all remember the Silver Moon Cafe near LSU on Chimes? "Mama" Seabell White Thomas, chef and owner of the Silver Moon Cafe is releasing a new cookbook.
Mama will include recipes for your Silver Moon Cafe favorites. Plus, she's adding new recipes and more from her personal family collection.
A few LSU graduates are working with Mama on the cookbook. They're taking preorders to help defray the costs of photography, printing and helping Mama compile, write and edit her best recipes. It will feature close to 100 recipes and will be a hardcover cookbook with stunning photos.
All pre-orders will receive a free digital cookbook. Check it out and please share! https://silvermooncookbook.com

Ate my LSU graduation dinner at the moon of Nicholson. Family at first thought I was crazy …… until the food came.
I remember one day I ordered red beans and rice to go. When I got my order mamma put a smothered chicken quarter in there. I told her she made a mistake and offered to pay
“That ain’t no mistake baby, you need some meat to go with that”
That women made my college years much better

As delicious as her food was, I could never finish an order of meat and side of beans. It was so filling. She put some voodoo in the pot. God bless her.

Seeing this old thread again and looking back to see my post from 11 years ago on page 1. Damn, I've been here too long, but haven't aged a day
Again, God Bless Ms Thomas, and I'm so glad you guys are putting this cookbook together to memorialize her most generous and heartfelt contribution to our community.

Used to be at the north gates before that. Was a great place to eat circa 1998.

Are the recipes the same as the first cookbook?

Man we used to eat there constantly in the early '00s, when it was back behind the music building. My then-gf used to rave about the cornbread and one day walked by the trash can and it was full of those blue Jiffy boxes
That and a whole lot of butter I guess.
Silver Moon would be in the running for my "favorite" restaurant ever, for a certain definition of favorite.

No kidding? But not surprised
Jiffy was 4 for $1 back then. Over $1.25 each now.

Could easily stretch one of her lunch specials into 3 meals. I could also (somewhat) easily eat the whole thing at once

Her red beans as a side was crazy…easily a full meal by itself.

I found a band aid from mama in my red beans one time.

Ain’t no shame in using jifffy. It’s just the raw ingredients all mixed together already.
