Where you located? I'd been seeing around a good bit around Laffy, even to a point where Total Wine marked it down. Id assume it'll be around sooner rather than later.

Make sure to hit up Nunu's (Youngsville), Little Veron's, Champagne's, and Marcello's while you're there.

quote:Good choices in your post. I'll add Glendronach 18 as a really nice scotch at the $160 price point.
Hope this helps some. SingleMalt and Bus are more experienced in the scotch realm, so hopefully they see this and chime in on it.
Highland Park 18 or 21 could be good options too.

Talisker 18 is around $175, Glendronach 21 will run about $275, I don’t know how big of a scotch person you are buying for, but if you can find some Signatory, Gordon Mcphail Adelphi, Single Malts of Scotland independent bottles you can get single cask of stuff like Ben Nevis, Highland Park (Unnamed Orkney), Glen Grant, Caol Ila (smokey Islay )and Clynelish. The ones in your $200-$300 range should come in the 18-25 year age range. They will all have the vital, stats on the label like Type of Cask, date barreled, dump date and number of bottles. So as a gift I think, these offer a more special feel than just a standard distillery bottle.

Here is the blend for it. They lost their way after #4.
31% Kentucky 12yr bourbon – corn 75%, rye 13%, malted barley 12%
— 25% Kentucky 12yr bourbon – corn 78%, rye 10%, malted barley 12%
— 21% Ontario 12yr whiskey – corn 100%
— 15% Indiana 7yr rye whiskey – corn 45%, rye 51%, malted barley 4%
— 8% Tennessee 17yr whiskey – corn 84%, rye 8%, malted barley 8%
Interesting they would use 100% Corn whiskey from Canada. It might be good but looking at the blend seems like a hot mess.

Yeah I'd seen that which is why I wasn't willing to take a chance with the amount of store picks/other allocated bottles they had out there. Especially after batch 5 came out and fell flat on account of the Dickel influence. I'll stick to Kentucky/Indiana batches (if they decide to go back to that route).

This mashbill is fantastic

It's that Ontario and Tennessee that got me worried, not the Beam, Heaven Hill, and MGP. Epic you ever had/heard of anything from Ontario at 100% corn?

Sourced Tennessee is probably George Dickel. I will never take a chance on something that has sourced Tennessee juice.

After seeing that blend I looked at some reviews, most a very favorable, however most feel like it is on the sweeter side. I also didn’t realize the MSRP is $149.99 up $20 from the previous Discoveries. A couple people said it was a dessert whiskey. Not really my thing if it’s that sweet.

I assume it's Dickel seeing as they're the only ones thatd have 17yo stock just lying around for sourcing

Starting with a blind head to head of JD10 and bonded

Posted on 5/14/22 at 5:49 pm to dnwsr
10 for me, is more complex with banana and peanut and oak.

I should start by saying I like the bonded and would easily recommend it for the price.
However, the head to head wasn't very close from the nose to finish. The 10 is richer with a creamy mouth feel. The bonded is sweeter (good bit of maple) and thinner. Imo, JD priced these appropriately in relation to each other.

I think the 10 year is priced well at retail but not a bottle I would pay secondary

Agreed. It's definitely not on the special release rye level.
Speaking of ryes, this is a blend of Willett juice. I'm hoping I can eventually get my hands on one of the LA releases. The 4yr is still my go to although sagamore and stellum are right there for the quality and price point.
