Go to Total Wine and start with either Doorly's XO or 12yr
Start off just like bourbon, with the more approachable profile.
Then the next thing you know you're buying $125 15yr old Hatian top shelf bottles!

Ran into this today. I paid too much but I don’t care. It’s one of my favorites and was happy to find it. About to do a fresh crack…
Hopefully you paid between $30-40. Special Reserve isn’t…special

Literally $20 at the Wal-Marks

It’s my money brother and something I like, so I’ll pay what I want for it. You buy and drink what you like

don't drink much rum, especially straight, but seeing a few of these rum bottles on here make we want to try.
Go down to Donaldsonville and find the 6yr at the source after taking your tour of Noël Distillery...

And then...
Once you venture out from there, if you're interested we can talk about Brandy, Congnac, and Armagnac...
But only when y'all are ready

Here in DFW, the Weller SR is not plentiful. Actually none of the Wellers are so you have to overpay here. Buffalo Trace is getting much easier to find and I would probably just pick that up over Weller SR because its cheaper.
If you like it and comfortable overpaying, no big deal. We all like diff stuff. But if you get your hands on a Weller 107 Antique, you will throw rocks at it.

heypaul thanks for the recs. I'll make a note of some of these bottles and see if I can find any of them here.

Perm, I've had the regular Still Austin Rye. It was OK, not as good as my beloved Michters, but I might have to find a single barrel cask strength then.
On a side note on Bourbons cooked in the high heat of Texas and Nevada.....I pick up a distinct note that is regardless of brand that I like. I can't figure out if it s the Oak tannins or what.
I pick it up in the Still Austin, Garrison Bros(TX), and Frey Ranch (NV)

The cases of EH small batch are just sitting in the Chevrons. I can't tell if people just don't want it anymore or if they are walking past it since it's not placed where the regular allocations are.

This has your traditional Rye notes but this is so unique and different. These picks come from their master blender Nancy Fraley who is pretty famous in the whiskey world for her blends across various distilleries. She picks a barrel of Bourbon and Rye each month and they release it at the distillery. They are usually older, cask strength and off profile/unique.

People just don't rush to buy it anymore. And he's getting so many cases of it right now. It's saturated

EHT SB is good whiskey. I drink it when I want something solid. If I’m out and I see one, I’ll buy it but I’m not chasing it or buying back ups.

There is plenty of EHT where I'm at. Not much Weller. Eagle Rare isn't as plentiful as EHT here but not hard to find at all.

The EHT, ER and Blanton’s are plentiful. I have seen it in every grocery, liquor store and hole in the wall.

What did you pay for it? Where do you live?

This one is good. Glad I picked it up.

It’s solid whiskey for sure, but there are other things that are available on the shelf that are better, IMO.
FPD, an example of one of those bottles
