I have a chance to buy a Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye 13 y 95.6 proof which is a unicorn for me at $1,000. Does that seem fair?

The bubble has popped this is a buyers market. Not yet there on this price but I would not pay more than $500 and TBH I don’t want that bottle even at $500

People keep saying that but it's not reality. I think the appropriate statement is "the market should have popped". The reality is as long as the conglomerates are still creating artificial demand with allocated and small releases, these "special" bottles will never become regular finds at rational prices.

It doesn't help that the customer base is accepting of the status quo. People aren't going to just stop buying Stagg Jr. for $150-200 within an hour of it hitting the shelf.

I don;t agree with that. I see secondary prices everyday

I see Stagg at 120-30
OWA 110

Stagg was a going for 200-240-300 or higher at one time
OWA, 200-250

I wish we could see some actual national statistics. My anecdotal evidence is as bad as yours is good. I canvas 4 or 5 liquor store around the South Bend, IN area every two weeks or so for the last two years and have never seen either of those. Once a month or so I'll see a store with things like Weller SR around $100, Taylor Small Batch at $100+, Knob Creek 21y at $250, etc.

I know what these bottles go for retail.

Not sure your secondary sources but I see secondary prices on the bottles mentioned quite often.

At least in BR, getting stagg under $100 isn't that hard to do. Just have to know when and where to look.

OWA on the other hand, that's impossible

I don't think we're seeing the bubble pop, I think we're just seeing a small cooling off

Edit: walked into a random specs in the woodlands while there for work and they had 6 bottles of EH Taylor Small batch, 5 KC 12yr, etc sitting on the shelf for MSRP.

I tend to see store picks lingering longer and longer. I think its smart when places require people to buy one in order to get allocated bottles at MSRP.

I have a gas station that has a good bit of Eagle Rare but they want $53 a bottle. I plan to go bargain with him.

2 years ago you would never see Four Roses picks because they would fly off of the shelves. There are 2 (maybe 3) local spots that have had bottles just sitting collecting dust for $90.

Isn't the MSRP $49.99?
