Attention Denham area folks, the Carter's on the corner of Cockerham & Hatchel has one bottle of Elijah Craig barrel proof batch C922 on the shelf.

Epic, how do you like the KLuke?

It kinda reminds me of some of the younger (8 or 9 year) Elijah Craig Barrel Proof picks with it’s sweet oak component and sharpness. It’s a bit hot, I let it sit out for a bit and it tamed some of the initial sharpness, but still drinks a bit hot (even for 119 proof). It does have a very long finish with a slight tea note that I enjoy. I think it’s one that may get better with time.
I know this is unfair, but when I ordered the KLuke from Seelbach’s I was offered a 7yr Four Gate rye finished in toasted and charred French oak barrels for half off and it kinda kills the KLuke, but normally would be twice the MSRP so it should

A younger ECBP is a great comp. I find all of the releases to be on the sweeter side, but with good complexity for the age (guessing 5-8 year blends).
I think he should consider a second tier with some higher aged blends.
I've only had four gate once. It was a sherry finish and outstanding. I went back to that restaurant a few weeks ago hoping for more, but it was long gone. They were giving fairly generous pours for 18. I've come close to buying a bottle several times. The new(ish) mizunara will probably be too tempting to pass up if I run across it.

I got the standard version of remus for 10 on clearance at Walmart. To date, it's the best value. I tried the Maisano's version in store. As usual it's a step above.
1pd is final blind of 4R picks. I took the top two E and B recipes from the previous blinds.
Update: the B's finished 1 and 2 (Q and V respectively). I'm not too surprised given my proclivity for higher rye, but all three rounds involved splitting hairs. I would be surprised if the results held in another run of the 10 recipes.

Sticking with 4R tonight. As much as I enjoyed those sibs, this is a completely different level. V and K recipes ranging from 12-19 years.
