Not the greatest, but it's a start

Definitely a good start. Is that double oaked woodford? I read some reviews that werent too flattering. I've been thinking about making my next purchase a bottle of Russells Reserve. What do you think about it? Do you find it heavy on the burnt/char flavor?

Honestly I think I like Wild Turkey 101 just as much as the Russel's Reserve. The Reserve may be a tad better?

Hey Guys

Been reading for a while and there seems to be some very knowledgeable drinkers on here.

I've been into the bourbon for about six months or so and have been developing a taste for the rye.
If you had to choose between these two which would you get:
Smooth Ambler Old Scout Rye or Dickel Rye

I love the Bulleit Rye in cocktails and am a fan of the the Dickel 12. I'd get both, but I try to limit myself to one new expression a month so I don't get overwhelmed.

Both are solid Ryes honestly but can't go wrong with Smooth Ambler.

if those are my two choices gotta go with SAOSR
enough punch on the palate, and it’s still sweet enough to go down easily.
its great neat and also makes one hell of Manhat

Smooth Ambler easily for me. And price point for the quality is good. Also like that the company is forward about what is their juice and what's sourced.

My first pour of SAOS was yesterday and I was very pleased. Hard to beat that rye for $30

Where do they source from? Do they say that?

Results from a recent competition if anyone is interested. I always find these interesting and they serve as a good reference on what to put next on my list of ones to try.

It's funny how much results can vary between competitions based on judge preferences. For example, at the San Fran World Spirits Competition this year E.H. Taylor Small Batch got a gold while the Single Barrel got a silver, and at the other competition the Single Barrel was given a 97 and the small batch an 87 haha. Like I said I refer to these when deciding what I want to try next.

On a side note someone above asked about the Woodford Double Oaked which got a double Gold from San Fran and a 95 from the other competition.

Thanks for posting, interesting little read. On a side note, my little girl is finally headed home after spending 11 of the past 13 days in the hospital with a bad knee infection. Thank God this is over. Thanks to those who offered prayers. FPD later this evening is much needed.
