Obviously the ETL word has spread. I went back to my two honey holes and one had sold out completely and the other who had a case the last time I was there only had 2 bottles left(which I picked up ). Damn these "shortages".

So if I'm understanding this Stitzel-Weller thing correctly, the 18 yr JPS will only be increasing in value over the next 6 months to a year. So stocking up could be a good investment?

Yeah, there will not be any more JPS (of the Stitzel Weller variety) produced so it will stay in high demand. It'll retain good trade value if nothing else.

that is one way to look at it. I would rather spend my money on the high end stuff and stick to my everyday drinkers

For the Houston folks there are three bottles of JPS 21 at the smith street specs. It was in the 130 range.

OK. Been a fly on the wall long enough. So far this thread has made this noob a fan of Blantons, stumbled across Four Roses 2013 LE which is still unopened, and picked up my first Elmer T. Lee today (Wow) and am now angry I didn't grab the other bottle on the shelf.
So I have hit 100% thanks to you all.
Now more advice needed.
The store has a bottle of Buffalo Trace experimental Hot Box Toasted barrel. At $51 do I give that a shot or go with Jefferson Select or Four Roses single barrel, since I have tried none of the above your opinions will again be valued.

I've tried a couple of the buffalo trace experimentals and that's exactly what they are experimental. So unless you want to search the Internet and find out what the consensus best experimental is, they are very expensive for a "let's see what happens when we do this shite" bourbon. The same thing with the series that tries all the different barrels. So if you are just getting started Ii would recommend putting your money other places. If you have disposable income though give it a shot. Like I said earlier I like to try everything.

Went to a store that I hadn't visited in a while. They did have 1 bottle of ETL that I left for the next local person who has a decent palate. I did find a couple little (or in the case of one, not so little ) gems there, though:

This thread has been money for folks new to good bourbon, like me. One of the best threads ever on the innerwebs
