so they went from shortage to having enough surplus to do a barrel proof?

I've got one that was inscribed to my dad in 1999....cracked it open for first time at my wedding a couple of years ago as tribute to him since he had passed away....still have a little of it left...very smooth.

That's is pretty cool. They probably did the math and see they can make more selling barrel proof vs cutting the proof lower than the regular.

Oh yeah, they definitely saw the cash there was to be made with the barrel proof stuff.

This is an old thread I saw but was surprised no one mentioned W l Weller, the baby pappy van winkle. $34 a handle. Beats most high end bourbons. Distiller by the same distillery.
Had a real good one though the other day, Four Roses single barrel reserve, not worth the $80 price tag.

Papy van Winkle sells for $80 to $300 a fifth and you have to be on a list with a deposit at my store. Had some in Vegas for $30 a shot. 94.5 proof and it went down like ice tea!!

Makers Cask Strenght is allegedly starting as Gift Shop only to start.
I've bought Blanton's SFTB from the UK without issue...
