only on the Angostura orange...made it a little too citrusy...the creole bitters were interesting (like peychaud's with black pepper and cayenne pepper)...further research required...certainly isn't easy to pick one

UJ, we had the birthing class today. I'm currently finishing the ehbp to try and unsee what has been seen.

<---td at Gmail. Give me a semi live summary of what the first few days are like so I can reconcile with the mind blowing stuff they tossed at me today. If you can of course.

And congrats again. Despite the attempted fear mongering today, I actually got more nervously excited.

Just vatted a 60/40 and 40/60 W12 amand OWA. Gonna let it rest while I'm out of town for work this week and try it next weekend.

And my dad came over tonight and poured 4 ounces of lot B over ice with a splash of water. The fact that I have 5 open bottles I like better coupled with the fact that old redneck could tear me up made me wink and clink glasses anyway, despite my ignored suggestions to try it neat first.

Btj...is that a store pic or at your house

GTR nothing can prepare you...just have a open mind...relax...and let the natural father figure come out. The crying stops eventually...I think?

And never correct daddy no matter how much water he puts in his pappy...he is always right...and that's what you pass onto your lil one...

the more classes we take and books I read, the more sure I am that this is more accurate than anything.

Indeed. It felt like a win that I got him to use the aerator. He gave me a wtf look when I poured it in there, but he liked the result.

He called me a snob when I used it, then I reminded him that I just mixed two $23 bottles and he acknowledged that I'm simply expanding my knowledge and trying to get the most out of my bourbon while holding on to the roots.

Ha I wish that was my house...regular Angostura and cherry bitters combined ended up being the winner...old fashioned of the night was made with Bulliet rye, Luxardo cherries, orange, cherry, and rhubarb bitters with a little St. Germain...perks of living with a bartender

It will be all good GTR...books help...hands on is key.

Angostura are the ones I use when I make a old fashion...that muddled orange skin, simple syrup, and usually 4roses single barrel.

They have every kind of bitters imaginable now...mint, aztec chocolate, memphis BBQ, gumbo, eveything...Bernheim is awesome! Dry Fly is good too if you like 100% wheat

No sadly I didn't. We are on a pretty tight budget right now and as bad as I wanted to buy at least the 10 I couldn't justify spending that much right now.

They must have just put that display out right before I got there though. It's shocking to see them just sitting there like that

Finally did a side by side tasting of my vatted 50:50 WL12:OWA107 vs VW12. The nose on the VW12 was more fragrant and less alcohol burn and you could pick up on the honey and caramel as well as some oaky notes. They definitely had some similarities in the palate with similar honey suckle notes and burnt caramel notes and some nice oak spice and finished with the oak flavors with mild vanilla (the finish on the VW12 was more pronounced).

The VW12 was the clear winner for my buddy and I, but is it worth the extra price tag for the more refined taste and smoothness?

Well, that's for you to decide.

Question for the board: I tend to nurse my hard to get bottles and I am also not drinking quite as much as I used to. I have several of these bottles that have passed the halfway point of being empty and have been that way for a few months. I am a little worried about oxidation and I don't want my premium juice to go bad. Do any of you transfer your bottles to smaller bottles? I'm thinking of transferring a few but I also like to open my liquor cabinet and see the actual bottle. I hear of some folks shooting the bottle with nitrogen but I do not want to go that route.
