Probably will get downvoted into oblivion for this question and didn't want to start a thread so:

What is the best "cheap" whiskey or bourbon? It'll be used to drink at the LSU games, most likely mixed with something. So no need to have anything nice. Last year I used crown (trashy, I know) because I had a ton of it stocked for some reason.

Just curious to what you all think is the best cheap whiskey.

I know good whiskey is meant to be enjoyed straight up or on the rocks and I agree, fwiw.

For coke and ginger ale I buy Evan Williams black. No need to buy anything more than that if you are mixing.

I tend to reach for plain old Buffalo Trace or Sazerac when I am looking for a mixer. Both can be had for about $20 a bottle. Go with Buffalo Trace for Mules and Sazerac for an Old Fashioned.

There are a number of good Bottled in Bond bourbons that are fairly cheap and can be mixed or used straight.

Jim Beam, Heaven Hill, Old Grand Dad, JW Dant Bottled in Bond are all decent and less than $25.

Earle Rare is great for any occasion, especially store picks. But I still think the best bourbon and coke is made with Makers Mark. There's something about that sweet wheated bourbon that sets off the caramel flavor in coke.
