Wife and I are going to Hoover for the SEC baseball tournament. Does anybody have recommendations for restaurants? Thinking mainly of breakfast and dinner.

Near Hoover is mostly going to be chains. Patton Creek shopping center has a wide variety of food for dinner. Your breakfast options are going to be pretty limited near there. The chick fil a, Starbucks, and a few other places along 150 is about it. If you go over to 31 and head south there is a big shopping center that has more breakfast options.
You should drive up to the Summit for dinner one night. Village Tavern is always good. The hot crab dip as an appetizer is great. And there's some places out 280. I wouldn't stick to Hoover.

Village tavern is a chain too dude
Vecchia in Hoover is a new neopolitan pizza place that i have heard good things about.
Cajun steamer and jubilee joes are two Cajun seafood type joints in Hoover as well

The Egg and I for breakfast, it's pretty damn tasty.
You'll be right next to the Galleria and Patton Creek for food options, but it's going to be mostly chain type stuff.

Unfortunately, Hoover is a food desert of chains. Not much original going on there.
Tortugas Pizza is a must. It's Chicago style pizza that's made to order so it takes a while. It's right on HWY 150 near the Met. LINK
Iguana Grill is a short drive down HWY 150 to Lorna Rd. Its a locally owned Mexican place that has a pretty cool atmosphere and decent American styled Mexican food. LINK
Silver Coin is also down Lorna Rd. It's the best Indian food in Bham IMO. The naan there is ridiculous. LINK
You'll have to range pretty far after that. The 280 area has some better places that are original/local. Downtown area is better than that.

I don't know how far away this is from the stadium, but Klingler's European Bakery & Cafe is a hidden gem open for breakfast and lunch. It's a little German place in Vestavia Hills.
Klingler's
Edit: It's about 10 miles from the stadium.

Even better than that would be the Diplomat Deli. It's a little closer than Klingler's. LINK. Also in Vestavia on HWY 31. Across from Mark's Outdoors. Good combo trip.

Never been impressed. Decent, but nothing to brag about.
Drive up to Homewood and eat BBQ at Saw's.
There's an Italian place down 280 near 119 that has good food. I can't recall the name off the top of my head. Maybe somebody can chime in. Nice atmosphere.

Next door is Taste of Thailand that has great sushi and Thai food.
Rock n Roll sushi also just opened up in Patton Creek.
Jubilee Joe's >>>>>>>>>> Cajun Steamer. And Cajun Steamer will be packed the entire time for the tourney.
Next to Jubilee Joe's is Cajun Cleaver, nice butcher shop if you want to pick up some stuff for tailgating. They have boudin and beer on tap.
Costas for italian and some greek offerings.
The Egg and I is a pretty decent breakfast spot about a mile off of 150.
Vecchia's can kiss my arse. 1 pizza and 6 beers and it was like $120. The pizza was not worth it whatsoever. Good beer selection though.
A little farther up Lorna is a little hole in the wall mexican place if you want legit mexican food. It's Los Pedros Taqueria, they have tacos de lengua.
For nicer dining check out Sattersfield in Cahaba Heights.
Chuck's is supposed to be really good.

frick that.
The Italian place I was thinking about is Bellini's, but it's a bit of a drive from the Met area. shite just run up HWY 31 (but not rush hour) and do downtown. Southside has a lot of options.
If you're looking for good bar food, go to Voodoo (used to be Iron Horse). Surprisingly good bar food and when they remodeled, they banned smoking. Pool tables, dart boards and good bands on the weekends.

Cahaba Heights has a ton of great places to eat. I was curious to see what kind of reviews the Cajun Cleaver got from some of the native LA folks. I love the place.
Never tried Taste of Thailand. My people love Surin and Nori so I guess we will have to try it. Thanks for the heads up on Los Pedros. I'll try it next time I'm over there.

Heads up on Los Pedros. They occasionally have a pickled pepper salad on the salsa table. The orange peppers in it are not bell pepper, they are habanero and they hurt..... a lot.

If you're looking for simple Cajun/Creole and you like small casual places, this place isn't bad at all.
Crazy Cajuns
I haven't been there in a few years, but the poboys and gumbo were very respectable.
But why do Cajun/Creole in Birmingham? Go get some BBQ.

BBQ is gonna be tough to find in Hoover. There are three places close to there: Jim n Nick's is on the corner of HWY 31 and 150. It's a local chain. Golden Rule is another local chain and it's up on HWY 31 in Hoover before you get to Vestavia. The other is on HWY 150 and it's Legacy BBQ.
Ms Myra's BBQ is over in Cahaba Heights. The half chicken with the white sauce and a pie for desert is well worth the trip. Best BBQ chicken I've ever had. Period.

Crazy cajun is not good, I'm sorry. It's just terrible.
Last time I ate there we sat at the bar and had a beer waiting for a table. They steam the crawfish and sprinkle with Tony's. Watched them do it.
My least favorite attempt at cajun food in the area.

I've just had a shrimp poboy and their gumbo. It was right when I moved to Birmingham 4 years ago, and they were both pretty good.
I have yet to find 'good' crawfish in Birmingham. Mostly overcooked and underseasoned.
