Where are the Crawfish?

This time last year I had already done 2 boils and purchased boiled bugs from local markets several times. This year so far, there are no live crawfish available yet and only 3 places in my area on the Northshore (Mandeville/Covington) that have boiled crawfish for sale.
What gives? It hasn't been a cold winter so they should be growing, right? Did covid shut down the processors/distribution?

I’ve seen some live at a few places. But you have to admit the weather hasn’t been great for them

Not in recent weeks, but last year I did boils in December and all the markets had boiled crawfish in December.

Who knows? It’s either too much wind or not enough, too hot or too cold, too much water or not enough, too many moon cycles or not enough. Even when they say the season is going to be great, there’s a reason they can’t process enough of them or something.
There are only two things you can count on with crawfish season: (1) They ALWAYS have a reason prices will be high and (2) the news will always be at Tonys Seafood showing crawfish being scooped on Ash Wednesday.

We live in Katy and a few places have them. I haven’t had any yet, but they seem to currently be charging $8.99 - $9.99/lb. As for live, our local HEB had half sacks last weekend for $5.69(?)/lb.
