My gumbo, for sure. I’m not saying mine is the best ever but it’s absolutely better than any restaurant i have ever tried.

Split Pea soup.. if I can get a Honey Baked ham bone with a decent amount of meat on the bone.

I would love to know how y’all cook steak better than most restaurants

If you are counting chili’s and such then sure

If you are narrowing it down to actual steakhouses, I just don’t see it. I consistently get a delicious medium rare prime cut of meat

I would love to know what y’all do to make it better

Sous vide or reverse sear will get you the perfect temp every time.

Screaming hot cast iron will give you a perfect sear.

It's almost foolproof to make a steak cooked to the right temp and with a proper sear.

Correct

But how is that better than the restaurant doing the same?

Like i said if y’all are including chili’s and such I agree. But I narrow something like steak down to actual steakhouses because I honestly don’t know if I have ever gotten a steak outside of a steakhouse

I agree it’s easy to do it just as good at home these days. I struggle to say it’s better

You know, outside of steak restaurants if you order a steak it’s usually cooked in a pan on the stove top.

Agreed

I just thought posters had somewhat narrowed it down

But yes, I do think it’s easy to make a steak at home better than Golden Corral and chili’s.

Hoenstly, if we are going to be this liberal, it’s very easy to make everything better than most restaurants

I don't eat at Chili's. I'm narrowing down to steakhouses, of which here in Dallas there are plenty. A lot are unimpressive.

At the end of the day, as I've said several times here, it's a steak. This isn't some extremely complicated flavor building process that requires extreme technical skill.

And I completely agree. Which is why steakhouses have always gotten it right when I go. If you can’t cook a medium rare steak these days you might want to quit cooking

True, but I prefer not to burn my steaks.

I’d take most home cooked cajun/Louisiana dishes over most restaurants. I very rarely order rice n gravy, red beans, gumbo, etc in restaurants because very rarely does it live up to the expectations I have in my head/the way I make it

Agree 100%
Couldn’t have said it better.

Medium rare is the perfect temp
