So for you J Alexander fans… what’s the go to?

Passed it 100s of times and have never eaten… now I’m intrigued…

Everything is solid, but big fan of:

- Classic burger
- Thai Kai salad (their salads are massive - actually everything is massive)
- French dip
- steak skewers when they’re on special
- the mac and cheese side

Steaks are good too. Just love the other stuff too much to get one most of the time.

Edit - how can I forget the spinach queso?

And the grilled artichokes

Anytime I bring up how good J. Alexander’s is I get numerous downvotes and negative comments. I don’t think people on here really appreciate how good and most of all, how consistent they are.

Same experience with Chilis.

The one in my town sucks, but the Chilis in a neighboring town is top notch (as far as chain restaurants go). Takes us back to the late 90s college days. Really good service and the three for me deal is great.

J. Alexander’s was one of my favorite places when I lived in BR long ago.

Same experience with Chilis. I had sworn off them years ago, but I tried one recently and both the food and service were pretty good.

Same. The one in Mandeville is pretty damn good.

I haven’t been in years but I used to love their ahi tuna. That dish is what turned me on to always ordering quality fish cooked rare.

They have become my husband’s go-to for crab cakes.

I usually end up with a special or a salad. If they have grilled artichokes I will make a meal off of them.

Good cocktail specials too. Some sort of pear reposado thing I got on one of our last visits was excellent.

It has stealthily become one of our favorite spots.

I had to swear off Duang Tawan because we went in not knowing what to expect and the place was just like someone’s messy and slightly musty old house. We just ordered pad Thai so while it was good it was nothing earth shattering. Finally convinced my husband to go back and now we are obsessed. I could live off of their Panang.

I’m happy to see the J Alexander love. I usually get downvoted when I recommend it but I think people just think it’s a chain restaurant at the mall type of thing and it’s really so much better than that. That spinach queso hits every time.

Had a pretty similar experience with Chilis somewhat recently, including being stirred by my teenaged daughter - think it’s a TikTok thing - except I didn’t go after the pandemic (or apparently any time in the past 10 or so years previously) because I initially tried to order chicken fried steak and they sort of laughed at me.

The Old Timer was on point, though. Not many places are doing burgers like that anymore that are still worth a shite.

The Chilis on Millerville has been shite for years. Could never get even a simple order to go right

Last week checked the newest Yelp reviews. Somehow they are even worse.
