I plan next weekend for the Big Showdown in T-town to either smoke chickens or a brisket

Have you priced brisket lately? Winn-Dixie had it for $7.99 lb a few weeks ago. My poor arse would go with chicken or pork. If I'm spending that kind of $ on beef I'm going to get Steak. Tenderloin was only $9.99 lb...

agree completely....brisket has gotten way out of hand, as far as I am concerned. pay that much money and then you have to throw away piles and piles of fat...

I would be all over that. I'll sound like grandpa but I can remember getting upset because it was $.79/lb.

IMO the best meat to smoke is a brisket, that is if you can get it right. Nothing worse than shelling out brisket money and ending up with overcooked meat. The safer bet would be smoke a butt, a bunch of wings and some sausage. Still would have plenty beer money left too.
If you haven't smoked some ABTs or bacon wrapped jalapeños then do yourself a favor and try some.

I hear some folks in Tennessee smoke a whole bologna. Always curious about that.

Brisket and pork ribs are my go to.

Pork shoulders are good and the leftover skin/bones makes a heck of a pot of red beans. Chuck roast is an extremely good cut of meat to smoke and you get a higher yield per $ than current brisket prices.

I smoked a 10# brisket yesterday that was divine. My other favorite mates to smoke are:

Baby Backs
Beef Ribs
Whole Chicken
Chicken Wings
Chicken Thighs
Boneless Chicken Breasts
Turkey
Burgers
Salmon
Catfish
Venison Roast
Venison Backstrap

Here is a pic of my brisket yesterday:

I smoke damn near anything with my electric smoker.
