Has anyone mentioned the Rendon Inn yet? 
I have never been, but I have a friend that you cannot pry out of the place. Apparently the old cook at Avenue Pub works at the place.

Same, I read a Frommers on Brussels last time. Riveting stuff, almost bought it off them. And to top it off the walkway to get to the back is so narrow you don't have to deal with too many fatties.

Just looking at a few pictures of the bar on Yelp, it doesn't look that much of a dive. The pictures show a couple of pool tables and multiple TV's plastered across the walls. I remember Janita's serving serviceable food and their tap list consists of Nola brown, Nola blonde, Hopitoulas, Irish Channel, Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan, Jefferson Stout, Abita Amber and Abita wheat. The tap list isn't great, but it is certainly tolerable.
