Picked up a 30# bag at Wal-Mart for like $8.

Same company that makes the wood chunks sold at Academy and elsewhere.

Have only used it once to smoke some yard birds but results have been all positive so far. Can always wish for bigger chunks.

Recently bought a bag of B&B and it was complete and utter crap. Of a 20lb bag probably 8lbs was trash.

Is Western a brand that Costco sells too? I got a bag the other day at Costco, but I'm drawing a blank on the brand

Sam's currently has the two pack of 18-20 lb bags of Kingsford original briquettes on sale for $14. I think it was 18.5 but could have been 19.5 lbs.

Thanks, I'll avoid them. I was in a pinch for time and got Cowboy lump last time. It's ok, I am trying to burn through it so I can get some post oak lump

I have heard mixed reviews with consistency and quality of Cowboy, but personally haven't had any issue.

Have also heard that many of the brands all come from the same manufacturer. Probably some truth to that. Same place, different quality cuts maybe.

Green egg lump is royal oak lump.

Go to goodwood and get some Rockwood lump. Either a 25 or 30lb bag for $30. All Mizzou hardwood.

Cowboy is crap in a bag. Small chunks, mixed with limestone.

I use Kamado Joe brand lump. Very large chunks and just burns cleaner. You can get it at shoppers choice.

I had forgotten how bad Cowboy was and am probably just going to toss the big arse bag I bought as it has a very short burn cycle and way too much ash. The Kamado Joe red bag with the internal plastic liner that is restaurant grade is very good. My favorite is Fogo, huge dense chunks, very long burning, very little ash production, been using it for 2+ years. Go to Fogo website and UPS delivers.

Rockwood is all I buy now. Local place has it for 25 bucks a bag. Nice sized chunks that are pretty evenly distributed, and haven't found a piece of debris in 4 bags I've used. Even the Green Egg brand had a little crap in it.

I can't say that I've ever had that issue with B&B. That's all that I use for competitions, home, demos, and other events. Try them again, you could've just gotten a bag that just wasn't up to their normal standards.

Not true. A lot of the reputable brands have their own kilns.
