I got a regular oatmeal raisin for $1.50 and a marshmallow deluxe for $3.50. I didn't know the price when I got them. When the cashier told me $5.50 for two cookies, I was like what? I paid but wont be going back.

I could have gone to the Blue Store up the street and got 3 wings, 3 potato logs and a pig tail for $5.50.

Get cookies, milk, and ice cream delivered at 2am and get back to me.

ETA: Better yet, get cookies, milk, and ice cream delivered at 2am to the bar you are at and get back to me.

so you didn't read the prices beforehand, requested a premium cookie, and it's Insomnia Cookie's fault?

I think 100% of the times that I have had Insomnia cookies was when I was bartending and someone ordered a box and shared. They sure as frick were delicious in that moment.

Think in your head what a “reasonable” markup on a cookie would be. Now, try to come up with what the overhead for employees, rent, utilities, taxes, etc would be. Now decide how much the enterprise would need to net in order for running it to be worth your while to begin with.

Now tell me how many cookies you would need to sell in order to cover overhead and make a profit.

Now go sit in the corner and think about what you’ve done.

This whole thing—$5 cookies and cupcakes—is why I don’t get the appeal of single item chains. How much repeat business are you really going to have? I’d rather patronize a bakery with a diverse product line that isn’t gouging me on a single item just to cover costs.

A pox on cupcake/cookie/bundt chain store bakeries......

Does your bakery with a diverse product line offer delivery service at 2am? What type of markup would they charge to offer such services? How much is said bakery charging you for a cookie? Is it much less than $1.50?

ETA: You find me a decent bakery that sells a 12 pack of cookies for under $15, I'd be shocked.

I rarely hand money to any of these places at their brick and mortar locations. But if I’m walking from the courthouse downtown and you put a cupcake food truck on the side of the road, that cupcake is probably worth $5 to me right now. A cookie usually isn’t worth $2 to me, but a box of them is sure as shite worth $30 to me if you deliver them to me while I’m trying not to murder a bunch of law students during a trial ad practice.

In short, I agree with you in theory. But, I’m not poor, so I’m willing to pay a pretty substantial premium to get something handed to me hot and fresh several hours after the bakery three miles away closed for the evening.

Firstly, when I am drunk, money is meaningless to me.

and B, a dozen warm cookies and some vanilla ice cream brought to my person, while I am drunk, only releases more of those endorphins I was trying to trick my brain into releasing in the first place.

Sure, I would rather have a roll of pillsbury double chocolate chip in the fridge and a 1/2 gallon of blue bell homestyle vanilla in the freezer, just waiting for me to pull that trigger, but I never buy that shite when I'm grocery shopping, because I have my whits about me at those times.

I get fricking fed up with people who bitch about prices whenever you can simply look at the menu before ordering. I dont know why, but I do.
